The Senate is working on the "amnesty" for illegal imigrants. Has anybody heard anything about the legal allien in this country that are pursuing the legal means to become LPR or USC. What is going to be done to the long list of people here in the U.S waiting for approvals on their cases.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the bill to make illegals legal but i dont see any reason why they should be rewarded more than those of us that followed the right path.

They should approve everyone legally waiting in line here in the U.S or something.

Has anybody heard what they intend to do for legal alliens "still in the process" if this bill goes thru?

I'd also like to know about the legal immigrants who are going th LEGAL route. I have a friend working at a dairy. She is from the Netherlands and is herdmanager. She has also bought 173 acres of land. The Investment visa she is trying to get is difficult. She just got a letter telling her she can't work while the process is going on. HOW THE **** IS SHE SUPPOSE TO PAY FOR HER LAND?????? She came to this country to work. If that dairy doesn't have her working, there is no way the production of that farm will continue. The farm may even go bankrupt. She has paid thousands of dollars to get her work papers. I think any illegal out there ought to be shot if they get legalization before my friend. What can be done to help the legals BEFORE the illegals?

And what about of those aliens who during 6-7 or more years, keeping the legal status like F1, I-20, waiting for priority dates that were retrogressed so many times? They cannot work, travel while the process is on and are "legal" but without all possibilities that have LPR. What about of those aliens? Their spouses are fighting for everything to keep going. What about the stress they are living the whole families?

I've done everything the legal way and I'm waiting for my case to be approved. I don't have a problem with illegal aliens, but I don't want them to be put ahead of me. I don't want to have to wait any longer. I was told that I have to wait for my security checks because they're not done yet. Does this mean that the FBI is going to have a surge of background checks to do? Does that mean that I have to wait longer because they're going to be backlogged?

I heard that there is a cut off date for legal LPR cases filed after 2005 that are inprocess will be kicked out and you will ahve to apply with the hoards of illegals applying under the new immigration system. I've heard that there is a proposed amendment that would change the cut off to Jan 2007 for LPR applications in progress. So if you filed your AOS in 2007, you will need to start all over again under the new system and expect another 8-12 year wait for LPR. Congress seems to believe that illegals need to be processes ahead of legals and are letting them cut in line since they ahve been here longer than legals and should be first, just to be fair, I guess. I hope I'm wrong.

I believe that they were talking about illegal immigrant filing cut-off dates not those filing for PR. The original bill was proposing a 2 year backdate. One ammendment is proposing for it to be bought forward to Jan 2007.

What concerns me more, as one stuck in the FBI namecheck for a year so far (N-400), is that the USCIS might ask the FBI to do all background checks as required for PR and Citizenship for the illegal immigrants on initial application for legalization.

This would seem logical because of all the political pressure being bought by opposing sides as a way to get the bill passed. If that happens, all of us stuck already can forget a speedy (ha!) resolution. I hope common sense prevails by the USCIS.

Of course it wlll cause delays; they are not adding any new USCIS workers so do you imagine things will be the same? Delays of an ADDITIONAL 5-8 years at a minimum. You are better off breaking the law.

This issue, taken together, is indeed hot-button and divisive. A few hours from now, a critical cloture vote (requiring 60 ayes) is up on the Senate floor. Hmm... it's gonna be a close call, it's tough. So, the Senate passage target before July 4th is hanging in the balance. If the bill doesn't survive, it's status quo once again altogether. But let's say the Senate version passes till Friday, it's gonna be another bitter showdown between the House and the Senate afterwards. Hmmm... time is ticking, the 2008 vote with its humongous head lurks not far down the road. Folks, we may just be having much ado about nothing!

After everything is said and done today, do you still want an answer? Let's talk again in 2009.

Yes nothing has changed. There are still 12 million illeals in the country and rising. There are still ridiculouslyy long wait times for bringing your family to the USA. Chain migration is as it is. Umm what else.
Nothing is changed. Because
The Republicans want to do nothing..so the next time that you complain what is the country doing for you think about the part of the bill that as about reducun wait times for legal immigrants. The part that was about bringing in more legal workers. Think about everything that was missed by thise bill.
When the next 9-11 happens and its an illegal immigrant..remember to ask your senators...exactly why didnt you vote for it?...

Mike,
From what I remember about your dilemma in previous postings, the immigration bill in it's present form would not have helped you in your situation. It pertained to folks here in the US currently residing.

Any update on your situation? Still waiting??
