Someone12, couple of things to bring to your attention: First of all, this guy was not an international student. He came to US since he was 8 years old. So technically, he is not the dirt bag you are referring to. It would be wrong for the US ambassy to tighten measures against international students on that basis. Secondly, the kid is not from China but South Korea.
Thirdly, it is never a good idea to generalize. If I go by your argument, I can draw the following conclusion: Columbine massacror was a white boy. Should we whiteout all the white boys out of america? Remember Oklahoma? A white guy! Should we keep all the white guys away from all the buildings in USA? Remember 9/11? all of them were men. Should we ban all the men from flying? That is the problem with racist minded people: when something horrible happens, the first thing they look for is who did it. If the person is one of their own, then they blame something else (gun control, medications, etc.). If it is someone else, then they want to wipe out the entire race the person belongs to. How is it that you always fail to understand that people are not on this planet to kill you. The externalities of the society we live in affect every group. Years ago, we were talking about a white boy, today a south korean boy, tomorrow it could be an indian or australian or african. The truth is, the real threat is not coming from those people, but from greedy corporations trying to make a buck on any occasion. And when I say corporations, dont think of people far away, think of yourself and myself. Everyday, people chase their tail to make money so they can buy things for their children assuming that will bring happiness. They fail to understand that giving attention to your child is more precious than the video games and vacations on the beach. Unfortunately, parents spend time feeding the corporate machine and forget about their true existence. When kids need attention, parents either give them video games or tv or prosac. Why should we be surprised by such a result at the end? You can grow monsters and hope for an angel to come out of him.
So, stop generalizing! The root cause of this is not a particular ethnicity or some big companies. The real cause of this is you, me and every other member of this society. Gun manufacturer would not exist if people were not buying them. Prosac would not exist if we were not feeding it to our children. We created our own mess and it is time we take responsibility for it as a society.
his family lives not even a mile away from me and he graduated from the high school my older two graduated from and my younger still attends. We lost two young people from this high school too - graduated with my middle son last year.

Kumna- what do you think about how the story unfolded. First they thought the first killings were "just a domestic issue", meaning a usual scuffle among black people... because the victim was black. That's how I understand it. It's appaling to me because it sounds like the black people can just kill each other off and noone has to be warned or know about it. What are your thoughts?

How insensitive of you to ask that question. It is unbelievable tragic what happened. I think nobody will be able to find the right words to alley the pain for the victims and their friends and families.
But did you -just one minute- think about what the parents and family of that young man have got to go through right now? Not only, that they lost their son, too, they have got to deal with the fact, that their son killed all those people. The whole world is watching them, and asking the question “ how could this happen?†a question these parents ask themselves and don’t have an answer for. Are they able to grieve the loss of their son? They will have to life the rest of their life with the question, was there anything we could have done, to safe these kid’s and our son’s life? Iperson, how would you feel, if you child would do something such unbelievable, and there is nothing you can do about it, it is just out of your control.
And on top of that, there are people like you, asking insensitive questions like that, trying to dig in their life and put it up side down.
Are you one of those people, if there is a big car accident with possible injured people, which drive extra slow to see if something really bad happened, or standing at the side to watch the EMS’s trying to safe somebody’s life. Shame on you, Iperson!
ProudUSC, I hope your children and you will recover soon from this shock and emotional distress. I also hope that there will be counseling available for your children, and all the other one’s, who had to witness this tragedy in one way or the other. I think the lack of media attention at the earlier stage of this incident was not racially motivated. I say this for two reasons:
1- Reporting black on black killing would be risky for any media in this age of political correctness and diversity.
2- The majority (white) of the population would not have really cared. Why take a risk on something that is not going to raise your tv rating?
In sum, is the media being racist? I dont think so. The earlier stage of the story would not have broguht them much money, so they disregarded it. These people would do anything for money. If today, the majority of the population was indians, trust me touching a thin hair of an india would have been a big deal the whole world would have to know about. If honestly feel bad for white people. Because the media and other corporations are just manipulating them for their financial gains. It is a sad reality of our modern life. Not convinced yet? Check out the new way rich people are using to evade taxes. They live with animals. Why? Because if you have animal on your property (deer,..) your property is considered as a farmland and thus you get tax break. Nowdays, you have multi millionaires who build mansions and put animals around it so it looks like a farm. Thank you for your answer Kumna. I've read quite a lot of your posts in the past and I've been impressed with your views, depth of knowledge and integrity. Sadly, the political correctness hampers the clear view on reality and in this case, prevented saving life of so many people.
Vegado, there is nothing wrong with me asking those questions. There is nothing wrong in this situation for me and other people being intersted and trying to find answers to this senseless tragedy, trying to cope with what happened. ProudUSC only lives nearby, and fortunately didn't lose any relatives, so there is no question of sensitivity. Please, don't be ridiculous. Another point, it is very important to know what went wrong in that family. It is being said that noone, and I mean noone, ever visited the 23 year old during his 4 year studies at VT, not even his closest family. He even wrote notes that he wanted to kill his stepfather in his college essays.

The media circus, as told by my son who went over there yesterday, was ridiculous. I think the whole block was engulfed with reporters and policemen. I feel very sorry for this family. The hatred that is being pointed toward them is being misdirected. Their address was printed on the internet - totally exposed for the world to see. They own a dry cleaning business from what I understand - this tragedy could put them out of business! My prayers are for everyone involved in this horrible event, including the family of the shooter.

At least, get the facts straight before you sprout any more rubbish out of your keyboard. The shooter did not come into the country with a student visa. He was a LPR. You should be petitioning to ban all visa to US, ban any foreigners comining into U.S., and hand out no more green cards to anyone. Will that make the country safer for morons like you?
