I'm not as familiar with what INFOPASS is, I know you get an appointment and you go and speak to the officer there. From what I've heard its more or less an in-person status update on the case. I hope its not like the interview itself, where they can reopen your case and ask more questions?
Shabber
Yeah Shabber, is what you described and no, you won't be interviewed again.
To update you.... I still did not receive that Green Card in the mail. Called the USCIS this morning and they did confirm that it was mailed out in Oct 2006 and again June 4th 07. I have been getting all the USCIS mail but never the WELCOME letter or the Green Card. Isn't this weird???
Office now says I can wait 60 days and see if it will appear or file a I 90 for a replacement card. ***MER.

Good NEWS!!! I got a letter in the mail yesterday telling me that I was approved (from I687 to I 698) and a Green Card was ordered and mailed to me in October 2006. However that card was returned by the post office. They again, re-issued a card and sent if June 4th 2007 after I inquired about it.
I have not yet received that re-issued card--should be here in a couple of days hoepfully.
YIPPPE!!!! Oh, while I was waiting for the card/letter---my EAD expired so I renewed it. Finger printed etc...but guess I don't need that now HUH???
Good luck everyone. If I can answer any questions for you, let me know.....I will do my best.

Wow, I'm not surprised of the USCIS incompetence.
If I were you, I would do an Infopass to have my passport stamped. At least that would give you an assurance of your approved status.
Hi freedom1, How is everything? Updating my case. June 28 2007 I-797C application has been received letter. July 03 2007 ASC Appointment Notice appointment for biometrics july 20 2007. Looks like here in VA everything is going faster. Do You know what kind of documents I am going to need at the time of the interview? RGM

Congrats! RGM
These are excellent news!
Make sure you bring your valid current passport, your current temporary card and your original birth certificate (translated to english if in foreign language).
You should receive your interview notice about 2 months after they take your biometrics.
Your interview letter should tell you what else to bring.
Yeah, here in Los Angeles this is taking for ever!!!
The same immigration officer came to the window, he didn't remember me (had my interview on May 15), asked for my A number. He looked and felt quite cold. Then he came back and said I haven't made a decision on your case yet. I asked him when would he, he said he didn't know. I asked should I return in 2-3 months, he shrugged and said you could, though you will receive a decision in the mail.
That was it. I said thanks in the end, but he just walked away.
To Shabber, this is strange how were you able to see the immigration officer who interviews you? Usually if you schedule INFOPASS you will be able to see information immigration officer but not the officer who interviews you. I recall from your previous post that you had interview and the officer stamped your file with pending approval and said to you the congress will pass a bill to legalize all illegal people! Is this right?
To Bannister; The css/lulac long time settled in court, is there a new settlement coming on and what it is for? Or what it could be different than the previous one?
If you go to federal court in seatle web site you will read the latest info on it. It is not yet completely settled. That is why uscis can not render decision on it because it will trigger another lawsuit.
The center of human right had been taking the INS and now USCIS to court since 1987 and won many class action against the INS and nothing whatsoever happened the USCIS still denying class member left and right and they never follow the court ruling. The USCIS will keep doing this for ever until every single class member die so no body benefited from the court ruling. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correction: it's not "class auction" but "class action".
"The difference in requirements between IRCA and LIFE 245A provisions regarding the continuous unlawful residence requirement could produce results inconsistent with the above goal. In the abstract, a class member may not be able to meet the LIFE Act requirement but may be able to meet the IRCA requirement. Under IRCA, applicants must establish that they resided continuously in the United States in an unlawful status from before January 1, 1982, to the date they applied for legalization (section 245A(a)(2) (A)). The Supreme Court indicated that class members "applied" for legalization at the time they were front-desked. See Reno , Id . Under the LIFE Act, however, aliens must establish that they resided continuously in the United States in an unlawful status before January 1, 1982, to May 4, 1988 (section 1104(c)(2)(B) of the LIFE Act).
Similarly, the continuous physical presence requirement is different in the two statutes. Specifically, IRCA required applicants to prove continuous physical presence in the United States since November 6, 1986 (section 245A(a)(3)(A) of the Act). Service regulations allowed that the applicant's obligation to prove continuous physical presence from November 6, 1986, ran only to the date of application (8 CFR 245a.2(b)(1)). The LIFE Act, however, requires all applicants to prove continuous physical presenc e from November 6, 1986, to May 4, 1988. Thus, the LIFE Act's legalization provisions do not aid class members who allege they interrupted their continuous physical presence after being "front-desked" or "discouraged" from filing".
Sorry for the delay in response Antton, I didn't read your post back in July.
Yea well the strange thing happened that I stood in the same line as everyone else does for the Infopass, and when after an hour I went to the window they had no clue about my case, so they sent me to another window, the guy was clueless again but he looked around and finally figured out what it was. He sent me to the same window where I had my LULAC interview in May, he told me to ask for Officer Meth who is the guy who did my interview. That's how I met the same one.
In terms of stamping my file, he didn't stamp anything, he just wrote on a sticky on top of the folder of my file 'pending approval'.

Yes, lawyers are waiting for final signature from the judge. stay tune I shall keep you all posted. You may visit fed court seatle for copies of the settlement agreements.
If I don't get a decision by November I'm thinking I should apply for a renewal of my EAD. My question is, whenever I would re-apply under the Life act I would pay the filing cost. However, I know in the legalization version you only pay the first year and then thereafter they renew it for free. In my case, since I would be renewing based on a pending legalization interview, would I have to pay the fee or would it be waived?
I am totally frustrated. Here is the time line on my case:
April 2006---went for interview and officer said my case will be approve pending background check. June 2006--- asked to come to office again and this time to bring my birth certificate. I did that and was told case approved and card will be made in my birth name instead of driver license name and to go home and wait for card.
I waited and waited---NEVER received any WELCOME LETTER or CARD, and the online system was not updated.
Before my EAD card expired in May 2007, I called USCIS and inquire where to file. I actually spoke to an immigration officer from Chicago who pulled up my case file on their system and she gave me the address to file and she told me to send check and application for renewal of EAD to Chicago office. I did, got a receipt #... but never heard anything back since, nor did the system updates.
While I was renewing my EAD, I was wrote a letter to the Laguna CA office to have them do a search to find out where my application from temporary to permanent card is. I received a letter back from them about a month later stating that my WELCOMED letter and Green Card were sent to my address in October 2006. I did not receive any such mail, nor have I moved in the last 12 years.
I immediately called USCIS and they told me they will resend that card out to the same address. That was June 4th 2007.
Till date, I have not received nor seen any Green Card in my mail. I have called and reported to the Postal Inspector etc.... Also have made appointment at INFO and went to local office to try and get a STAMP in my passport.
NO they will not do that. I had to file a I-90. Was told by the officer that I can file it free of charge and when that I-90 appears on the system, then she will STAMP my passport. Fair enough, I did exactly that.
No today, some 60+ days later, I called to see if the I -90 showed up on the system yet, so that I can get my passport STAMPED to proof my legal status to take the RE Broker exam in CA.
GOOD GRIEF----- I was told, because I did not pay when I filed the I -90, I probably have to wait 6 months before they will tell me anything. That if I want that to show up quicker, I must pay the $290 fee. I told them I already paid for the EAD card which I did not need to ---can that not count toward this I-90 after it is not my fault that the card did not show up.
Lady said NO...you have to pay.....
What has USCIS come down to??? Isn't this daylight robbery??? We pay and pay and pay and get no results even if its not our fault...we pay some more.
Anyone know what to do besides PAYING ...so that I can get a STAMP in my passport???? This is so silly....my application shows up as APPROVED on the system....why can't I get my passport STAMPED or a letter stating my legal status is beyon my comprehension. Is not like I am making this up...its showing up on the system...so why can't they give me a letter or a certificate or STAMP the passport???? HELP ME understand that and also get beyon this point.
Ridiculous---its been a year since the approval and NO CARD, NO STAMP in passport....nothing.... but a demand to pay.
