Newark, NJ

The proof I had were school records, immunization and health records, my father's records since I was a kid at that time period, family pictures, relatives affidavits. There is a new settlement that I heard took place perhaps you can look into that. Your attorney should provide you legal help.

No updates yet. I have the 1 year I-551 stamp in my passport so I am good to go already! But it would be more helpful if I had the card in my hand.

For my I-698 application, my interview took about 5 months after they took my biometrics.

This is in Los Angeles though.

Guys/Gals,

I want to let you know that this morning I received my Permanent Resident Card.

I also want to wish everybody good luck pursuing your Residency as well.

Now, when can we file for Citizenship? Smile

Congratulations, Freedom! Woo-hoo! Your green card is not based on marriage to a US citizen, right? If it is, you can file for citizenship in 2 years, 9 months. If not, you need to file in 4 years, 9 months. You've come this far. Time will fly by! Welcome to permanent residency! clap

Thanks!

Yeah, I think we're going to have to wait the 5 years even though the 1986 amnesty law says that the 5 years clock start ticking on the day of your I-698 application has been received by the service or after the 19 month that you became eligible to apply for permanent residency whichever comes late.

But forcing the USCIS to follow their own laws is going to be difficult.

The funny thing is that the USCIS Online Case Status still show my I-698 as "Pending" 2eek

Thanks ProudUSC.

My green card is not based on marriage; is based on a late amnesty case.

If temporary GC is the same as conditional GC then he should be able to do in 3 years. We need to read the law again.

Congratulations Freedom1,

It’s been a long road for all of us, I’m sincerely glad that some of us have been successful. You are very deserving of this triumph.

My questions is, what becomes of the denied? I know that if denied, you’re not supposed to be removable, but what will really happen? It’s a known fact that the USCIS does not necessarily follow the terms of the settlement agreement. So, in reality you could very well be arrested. What happens to all the money we have paid into our social security? What happens if your parents fall gravely ill in your home Country, and you need to briefly return?

The late amnesty is a very good thing for the approved, but if denied you’d be a billion times better off being undocumented. If undocumented you don’t have to worry about your door being broken down by ICE in the middle of the night.
