My CSS application was approved last week. I received my card valid for 4 years. They also send me the approval letter were it says that I need apply for permanent residency after or on the 19th month from the date my I-687 was received by the USCIS.
It looks like the people on this forum that got their I-687 approved have not applied for their permanent residency, or they just never bother to come back to this forum.
Do you mind telling me on what other forum you saw my post? I would like to update it.
Thanks,
Freedom1.

Thanks Han123,
The approval took about 3 months after my interview, but I was not served with an intent of denial letter. The interview took place in Los Angeles. I know other people that had their interviews here in L.A. as well and they still waiting. I guess every case is different.
Hi Freedom1.What kind a card did you receive? Was it a work permit or the I-688?

It was an EAD valid for 4 years with the words "Valid for Re-Entry" They also sent me an approval notice on form I-797C with my picture on it. The letter says that I need this letter and my EAD to gain entry back to the USA. It also says that during my temporary residency, I can not travel outside the USA for more than 30 days at one time and no more than 90 days total. The USCIS no longer offers form I-688.
Have you received your approval yet?

Thank You Freedom1. That's exactly what I've got. I called the USCIS and nobody could tell me if I would get the I-688 or not.

Hi rgm, congrats on your approval as well.
Are you planning or have you filed I-698 to adjust to Permanent Resident?
I'll be filling soon.
I'm wondering, since it say that an interview will be required, what do they ask you during this interview. I know we must prove that we understand and speak English plus government/civics, but that's all I know.
It's hard to believe that no one on this forum knows of anybody that have adjusted to permanent residency after CSS/Lulac approval...
Hello freedom1 I got my approval past october, after that I talked to my lawyer and she told me that I should wait untill the 19th month after the approval to apply.

Hi rgm,
The great news is that the 19th month starts from the date the USCIS sent you the receipt for your I-687! Have your lawyer check the laws (245a of the INA), it's says it there. My lawyer confirmed this with the USCIS Los Angeles Distric Director. Here's a link to the 245a regulations: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/e...r/pdf/8cfr245a.2.pdf Page # 9, Paragraph "S" and Page # 11, Paragraph "A".
My receipt notice was Sept. '05, my 19th month will be April 2007. According to the 245a regulations, I can apply now, but my appliction won't be process until the 19th month. I guess the sooner I apply for, the sooner my approval.
Good luck to you as well.

Reply to your original question of Filing I-698---temporary to permanent status.
YES, I did. I was approved I-687 in May 2003 with NO INTERVIEW at all. At the end of 2005, I filed for change of status using form I-698. Case was transfered to Los Angeles and was called for interview in March 2006. At that interview, was given the test and passed it with no problems. Officer told me my case is approved and to wait for background check, then to make appointment for passport stamping.
Then I got a phone call on my cell phone in June 2006. Officer told me to bring my birth certificate first thing the next morning to his office in Los Angeles (SOTO street). I did that at 8 am the next morning. He took a photo copy of my birth certificate, told me he has to use the name on my birth certificate for the green card. Again, said case approved to go and wait for the card.
Well.... its been almost a year. No letter...no card... no call...no updates on the website.
My I-765 work permit is about to expire in a couple of months. So I called the 800# two days ago...got someone on the phone, told her my case. She could not answer any questions---so she said she entered my case # in the system and request a search. That I should wait 30 to 45 days and if I don't hear back from them to call again. Meanwhile to renew I-765 but to wait a few more days because they will have a new form.
So there it is... more waiting.... and waiting.....and waiting...and waiting...... we are used to it by now right???
I will come back to the site and update the status when there is something new to tell.....

Hi rgm,
Yes, I filed it about a month ago. I got my receipt notice in the mail about a week after filing. It says that the next step is to wait for the biometrics appointment.

Hi 108jam,
I'm going to give you a tip.
Call the 800 #, when you're transferred to a live person, he/she will ask you for your receipt #, give them your # but change a couple of digits around, in other words give them a wrong receipt #. The customer rep. will be unable to locate your file, then he will ask you how long since you applied, tell him the date. When the rep is unable to locate your file, he will transfer your call to a REAL Immigration Officer!
The officer will be able to answer your questions much better. I found out all this by mistake when I called the 800# some time ago.
Also, you should setup an appointment through Infopass to find out how your case is going. Take your passport with you, if the officer sees that you've been approved, he can stamp your passport right there.
Yes, court pass that in 03 and USCIS accepted applications in July 04. BUT....you forgot that there was a provision called LEGISLATION QUESTIONAIRE where people who qualified for Late amnesty because of front desking but did not fall under the LIFE legislation.
Recall that ONE???? Or perhaps a lot of people were not aware of that.
Well, my LEGISLATION Questionaire was sent in Feb 2001, got ACCEPTED in Oct 2001 and was SENT THE I-687 form by then INS office to file my case.
Now back then, that I-687 form was NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE, only people whose Questionaire were accepted were given the forms to apply. There was a bunch of people who filed that way. That why my case was approved in 2003 and not 2004.
Regardless of when you applied and or was approved... BE PREPARED for more waiting.
