Speed provided some general info, however, need more information. Have you recently been or will be naturalized? Or did you get married? Or are we changing the first name and not the sur name? Please clarify.

I am under TPS and got married last month to an USC, since I EWI back in 1996, I cannot readjust, but I would like to change my last name to my husband's. I need to know what form I need to file in order to change my work permit. I also need to change my DL, which I know I have to go in person as well as SS office. But I don't know what I have to do next to change my work authorization. Thanks alot.
I used my last name, We didn't know we could change my last name then. I thought we needed to do it first with the DL then SS then INS... Do you know how it works???
Unless you chose last name that is different from your husband’s , you do not have to do name change through court. Just take your marriage certificate to DMV and Social Security Office and they will change your last name to your husband’s last name.
If you are under immigration proceedings.. If you filed for any type of immigration status adjustment, it is not recommended to do change your name until immigration procedure is complete. Besides, you will have an opportunity to request name change with immigration officer during your interview.
Hi again Speed; I am under TPS and we only get to re-register once our work permit is about to expired, I have never had an interview with anybody. Like I said before I cannot readjust because EIW, so I cannot adjust my status, so I have to stay under TPS which expires in Jan 09, that's when we get to re-register, so I don't understand what should I do, should I change it or leave it how it's..... What do you recommend?????
but speed, I don't think I can re-register with my husband's last name! don't I have to fill out another form. I will think I do, since they make you fill out another form for address changes, I think it must apply for last name as well.
I don't know how exactly you have to go about it, but I think you would have to file with court first, to legally change your name, so to speak, then with the replacement of all the other documents bearing your name.

I hear it works this way: you go to SS office with marriage certificate and ask them to issue SSN in your new name. When you receive that, you change everything else including DL. Then you change your work permit with supporting evidence.
