Having lived in the U.S. and being a natural citizen, I didn't realize until recently the barriars and **** that our government has put in place! With that said- let me get to the point.

My friend, who turned 18 not that long ago and still in High School, is scared about graduating. He was born in Germany and his mom married an American Citizen. However, he wasn't granted citizenship at that time. So, what should he do?

He is terrified that he can't pursue his dreams of being a Naval Pilot- and I tried actually doing research for him. All I could see was the N-600 form, which he may qualify for. Then again, I am lost. He is also scared to try contacting people because of being shipped over without any family over there. He moved when he was 8 or 9 so back around 92/93?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Or any other questions- I may be able to help or at least give him some leads.

Thanks in advance

Step Dad didn't adopt him, right? You're sure no petition, etc was ever filed for him? How did he come here? What type of visa?

Did his mother necome a U.S citizen? I think if the parent became a US citizen before the child's 18th birthday and all this happened before February 27,2001, he is a citizen and needs to apply the N600.Note that the child must have been less than 18 years old on this date.

See the following links and read them fully:

1.http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/N-600.pdf

2.http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/natz/bio_residing_us.htm

I hope this helps.

I just saw something on the N400 form.

If you read where it says WHEN CAN THIS FORM BE USED?

The N400 form-see link 1 above-says that as long as someone met the requirements oulined in link 2 above before Feb 27, 2001, the child can apply for citizenship at any point in their LIFETIME.

The major thing for your friend now seems to find out if the mother got citizenship when they came to the U.S and if that happened when child was 18 yrs or less, then that child is a US citizen by operation of the law.

The form is N600 not 400.

Ok- I will have to get back to you on the type 2morrow.

His step father didn't get to adopt him- didn't worry about it until he was past the age of 16- so won't work there.

His mother became naturalized in 1999- so- the N-600 probably will work.

I printed off that stuff you gave me John Doe- Thanks and I'll reply to the outcome and answer the questions I don't know 2morrow or monday- Thanks
