The most popular current buzz word on the campaign trail is "Rule of Law". "America is under siege by a flood of illegal aliens. Restrictionists encourage us to except the premise landscapers and dry wall hangers are a "threat to our security" and "sovereignty". This did not work out well in the last election but the GOP clings to this strategy because radio talk show hosts and the new GOP Chairman Lou Dobbs have made this decision on their behalf.
Q. What is the penalty for Business owners who entice workers to violate federal immigration law, labor laws, and reporting regulations?
A. Possible fine and a stern talking to.
Q. What is the penalty for a foreign worker without proper authorization?
A. Apprehension, indefinite detainment (in a remotely located detention facility owned by a Haliburton Subsidiary), Deportation and a 10 year or permanent exile from the United States. Possible death as some detainees die as a result of denial of medication necessary to sustain life such as Insulin for diabetics or statins for heart patients. Mixed status US Citizen family members end up on public assistance and suffer separations from loved ones more severe for a civil infraction of Immigration code than robbers, murderers and rapists.
I thought "Rule of Law" had a relationship with "punishment fits the crime", but not in Immigration Enforcement.
At the $1000 a plate GOP campaign trail dinners we have Republican owned business interests calling enticement of undocumented foreign workers to cross the US Border without inspection, harboring fugitives, violating US Labor laws and Tax Regulations, "cost of doing business.".
At the $100 a plate GOP dinners Presidential candidates are calling un-documented foreign workers Illegal Aliens, Criminals, and potential terrorists.
Way up the food chain our Fear Level is manipulated, we are warned of potential terrorist attacks all leading to the proposal of the militarization of the border. Defacto GOP party Chairman Lou Dobbs is calling for a crack down on these "evil illegal aliens who are invading our country" and destroying our nation.
The war on "Illegals" is costing taxpayers a fortune and is no different than the drug war. Billions have been spent but no real progress in controlling the drugs. We now have a "real problem" an Industry (prisons for profit) that government insiders are using to financially fleece the American Public. They are just getting warmed up as our fear level intensifies. More money to "fight the illegal aliens" more Detention Centers, mean more Federal Dollars spent on incarcerating people who were previously self sufficient and no threat to society. I for one am not on board with the concept of spending $85 a day to support Jose and his dozen cousins when they are perfectly capable of supporting themselves. It really ticks me off that because we incarcerated him his US Citizen spouse and kids are now on the dole as well. This "cracking down" thing seems to be punishing me, and most certainly is a pretty expensive way of "proving a point".
If you think that the GOP Version of the Dream Act is "helpful" to the taxpayer, wake up and smell the espresso Amigo. The only one getting Rich on this scheme is Haliburton and friends of George W. Xenophobes keep it up, when ICE succeeds its "mission" in your hometown. Do not be deluded into thinking Americans will get their jobs back, we are past that. Your local Factory or Plant will be gone and relocated to Mexico, where cost of doing business is cheaper and far less hassle. You can say goodbye to you local small business profits and landlords will be stuck holding the bag.

The OP, republicanwriter, is not a Republican. Her/his views are more liberal than some Democrats I know. Read back her/his previous posts. S/he just misspelled her/his Login ID, it should have been "republicanwriteoff."
"The letter of the law is a sword that killeth; its intent is a spirit that giveth life." (Justice Holmes on II Cor 3:6)
Republican or not, this post painted a very true picture! Come on all you Republicans, step forward if you can debate one word that was written in the OP's post!
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
Yeah, I know its tough to tell the difference between the big-government Democrats, and the even-bigger–government Republicans. There are many like me in the GOP that are from a different time, when it the Constitution had a meaning.
Expanding the Government is a liberal idea.
Government interference with the Free Market Economy is a Liberal Idea.
There is certainly no fiscal conservancy in building the longest fence on the planet. There is no logic in militarizing the Mexican border, when terrorists were escorted through the turnstile or got thier VISA's from the same agency you now advocate expanding. I am not drinking that cool-aid.
A "True" conservative would not be willing to place concern about immigration above any devotion to American liberty and the Bill of Rights. The GOP and this Cheny/Bush puppet show is promoting nothing less than Stalinism.
If this is America ask yourself, do we promote liberty and free markets? If the answer is yes, why all this anti-immigration zealotry, warmongering, economic ignorance, nativism and calls for police state measures?
DHS is the closest thing we have in America to the Gestapo. They are a rogue agency running around terrorizing communities. If this was not true you would never see an affiliation between US Citizen Puerto Ricans and Mexicans. (other than the Hispanic caucus) It doesn't happen. Yet in NY, a Puerto Rican agency is suing DHS/ICE for warrentless pre-dawn raids. We have a government agency with no accountability literally busting down the doors and rousting US Citizens for no reason, other than they happen to be Hispanic.
When the state "cracks down on immigration," it is acting in its own interests of power and expansion. It is clear that the FED's have become an entity unto themselves, and simply want to further manage and rule our lives. The border is just another excuse.
Why the tampering due-process and judical review and the "stacking" of the the judiciary by the Administration? I was not suprised when suddenly there are not enough Prison and Detention center beds. Oh lucky us Haliburton is just the company to handle the job. FOLLOW THE MONEY, it will always open your eyes.

Davdah - you still have your blinders on! Time for a wake up call! The GOP has turned our country into a serious laughing matter. It's a sad state of affairs - but you need to back down and stop defending it!!!!!
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
No need for self righteous statements right now. This country is in serious turmoil! All of the blantant, negative, biased words aren't going to fix it! It's going to take masses of us to join together to try and turn this around. So, please stop the stupid, inconsequential fighting that's going on. Who cares if one is fat, ugly, a moron - whatever - that's shallow in comparison to the crisis facing this country.

I second the motion. Knowing is the key for ProudUSC. As what they say: we may never remember people by what they have said or done, but we will, by how they made us feel (or something like that). Looking through the eyes of our neighbors, it counts to look beyond their documentation, which is temporal, it's their honor and dignity that're everlasting.

I will disagree somewhat. Both major parties will destroy this country while the minor parties such as the Green or Libertarian party, will continue down the suicidal self destruciton path. The Democrats will tax and spend with every new program they create while the Republican party will use "law and order" political dogma.
What has been lost is the delicate balance between the spirit of the law and the letter of the law. Neither party will compromise their core constituency. For instance, the Democratic party wants the low education, low income level immigrants because the group will be more willing to support their causes while limiting the higher degree, higher income immigrants because it challenges the direct authority of union labor. The republicans do the exact opposite. Both cite patriotism, rule of law, and humanitarian reasons, yet both fail miserably.
That is why I am an independent. I am beholden to no political dogma, no party is my master, and vote who I see is fit to lead office.

Ok, we'll start with the dinners. Show the hard evidence the things claimed to have been spoken actually were
I am not going to entertain much of this, but Orange County GOP dinner in June used all those words, criminal, illegal, ect. ert. and eventually worked himself up to calling the US Citizen Children of Mixed Status parents "anchor babies".
The venerable Newt actually posted an apology on YouTube in Spanish for his ridiculous digressions at the Spring NFRW lunceon in DC.
You only have to go to a GOP function to hear it. I have not been to a meeting in the last year and half where some Bigot doesn't get up and shoot his mouth off. If any solutions were offered that were do-able or practicle it would be one thing, but "put them all on a bus" is about the most idiotic thing I have heard.
But alas I digress. We were talking about a Policy that is advancing a Government Burueacracy that will dwarf anthing we have so far seen in American History, and turn this Country into a virtual prison.
Never forget for "National Security Reasons" you can justify using the Fence to keep people in too.

Just ot lighten things up: YOU MIGHT BE A DEMOCRAT IF...
* You feel Fidelity means not cheating on your mistress.
* You think that ****ography corrupts women, but find nothing wrong with a 50 year old president seducing a 21 year old intern.
* You cry every May 4th over the four people killed at Kent State, but have never been to the Vietnam Memorial.
* Along the same lines, "Four Dead in OHIO" by Neil Young gives you goose***ps, but "19" by Paul Hardcastle means nothing to you.
* You say shows like "Leave It to Beaver" are out of touch with America today, while you flip to your soap opera.
* You know of the stockpile of biological weapons in Iraq, but think that the US is wrong for not signing the land mines treaty.
* You want to know why we don't offer schooling in prisons (hey, isn't that what public schools are for).
* You think those stupid ribbons actually accomplish something.
* You tout the NAACP, but criticize anyone referring to a black man as a "colored person."
* You think a mother has a right to kill an innocent 5 month fetus because her pregnancy would interfere with her career, but feel we shouldn't put to death the man who raped and murdered 14 women.
* You feel that banning smoking in public indoor places limits your constitutional rights.
* You feel that being convicted of treason is an infringement on your first amendment rights.
* You honestly feel that alcoholics deserve social security disability benefits.
* You outwardly said "I would have voted for Elizabeth Dole" knowing darn well you wouldn't have because she is a Republican.
* You think it is ok for a President to commit perjury on his *** life, but criticize Dan Quayle for spelling potato/potatoe wrong.
* You stood on a soapbox demanding that Anita Hill be heard, but want Paula Jones' accusations to be swept under the rug.
* You think the guy who drops out of High School and builds your jeep deserves more money than the doctor who went to college for 10 years and saves your kids life.
* You sang along to "Give Peace a Chance" during the Gulf War.
* You've filed for unemployment within two weeks of getting out of high school.
* You went to Woodstock II and felt that it was a significant historical event, changing the way our country thinks.
* You own something that says, "Dukakis for President," and still display it.
* You've tried to argue in favor of anything based on, "Well, they're gonna do it anyway so..."
* You've ever said, "We really should call the ACLU about this."
* You believe that a few hundred loggers can find another career, but the defenseless spotted owl must live in its preferred tree.
* You ever based an argument on the phrase, "But they can afford a tax hike because..."
* You've ever argued that with just one more year of welfare that person will turn it around and get off drugs.
* You think Lennon was a brilliant social commentator.
* You keep count of how many people you know in each racial or ethnic category.
* You believe our government must do it because everyone in Europe does.
* After looking at your pay stub you can still say, "America is undertaxed." source

The problem is the media will report whatever its viewers want to hear whether it is CNN, Fox, MSNBC, Altmedia, Backpage, etc. Just look at the media and the humor involving Sen Hilary's laugh. People have now become too personal in disagreeing with someone politically. The ad by Moveon was uncalled for. The NAACP attacks on President Bush in the last 6 years have been uncalled for. The Republican hate attacks were uncalled for. Those who may want to hold office, whether local, state, or national, now know their families will be attacked, ther friends will be attacked, and their past will be attacked. This has got to stop NOW.
People should vote, not through their wallets or how they feel, but how a candidate will accomplish the challenges and tasks ahead. If the proposal violates the Constitution, then that proposal should not be considered. If the proposal has the appearance to buy your vote, then that proposal should not be considered. Finally, if you look at all the Great Presidents this country has produced, most, if not all, were controversial in their time. Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, Eisenhower, Reagan, Kennedy, Jefferson, Reagan, and Lincoln.
