LOS ANGELES - An illegal immigrant who sought sanctuary in a Chicago church for a year to avoid deportation and separation from her 8-year-old son was arrested Sunday, the church's pastor said.
Elvira Arellano was arrested before 3 p.m. outside Our Lady Queen of Angels church in Los Angeles, where she had been speaking to reporters, said the Rev. Walter Coleman, pastor of Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago.
Coleman said he was with Arellano when she was detained, but declined to provide other details.
"We're trying to determine her situation right now," he said.
It was unclear what law enforcement agency had taken Arellano into custody.

The 32-year-old Arellano arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday, leaving her sanctuary for the first time in a year to campaign for immigration reform.
A call to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was not immediately returned.
Why isn't she an activist in Mexico, pushing for a more responsible and less corrupt government? Has she ever wondered why Mexico's economy is so terrible? Instead of trying to get the U.S. to change the law, why doesn't she try and fix her own country?
I agree with California Republic!! It's amazing that Mexicans have the arrogance to interfere in America's internal affairs, yet are silent when it comes to their own country's responsibilities.
This particular border-jumping ID thief engaged in some quite shameless baby-waving, using her little anchor baby as a prop. I note that she didn't take him to Mexico, and abandoned him in America. More evidence of the hypocrisy surrounding the proclaimed "Hispanic family values."
From what I understand, Mexicans love Mexico and believe that it's better than America...at least that's what they tell us all the time. I'm sure that everyone will remember the immigration marches with multitudes of Mexican flags and crowds screaming, "Viva Mexico!!" Elvira Arellano will surely be quite relieved to be home in her "wonderful" country
Spanish-language media has convinced Mexicans that they're here saving America and that "lazy" Americans should be more grateful that they're here. Yeah, like America needs saving!! It's quite funny, though, to think that high-school dropout illegal aliens think that they're capable of saving anything. Ooooh, yeah, and how dare we expect that they might make even the slightest effort to learn and speak English. After all, if we weren't so **** "lazy," we'd be doing the decent thing and learning Spanish!!
So, that's one illegal immigrant less...only 11,999,999 more to go!!

Well, that pretty much shutdown the argument that she can't be deported and sent back to Mexico, because the problem it'll cause for her son to moved back and lived with her in Mexico.
She was in Tijuana only a few hours before Saul joined her. All he wanted was to stay with her and go to school. HOWEVER, after "visiting" momma for a coouple ours, HE WAS SHIPPED BACK. WHY? NOT to go to school, but to be USED AS A TOOL in a national tour to drum up sympathy for the ILLEGALS. You should hear him talking about this congressional bill and that bill.....and you know **** well an 8 year old doesn't have all this knowledge. Children's Services needs to place him where he can have a life. OR momma can have her brat in mexico.
