Yes, according to a new study, Americans, including elected officials, fail civics. And we wonder why we are in a recession right now.

New Study Finds Americans, Including Elected Officials, Earn a Failing Grade When Tested on American History and Economics

So, I ask, take the quiz here.

Question #10 - C. Religion
Question #17 - D. manmade satellite
Question #33 - D. tax per person equals government spending per person

The link shows how citizens and 164 elected officials fared in the quiz. Some are quite amazing that our elected officials generally fared worse than citizens.

Question #7 - D. Gettysburg Address
Question #10 - C. Religion
Question #14 - B. stressed the sinfulness of all humanity
Question #15 - E. Thomas Jefferson’s letters
Question #29 - B. a resident can benefit from it without directly paying for it
Question #33 - D. tax per person equals government spending per person

If I had spent a bit more time I should have got 29 and 33 right.

The others I would have only got correct by guessing as I am not American and have never studied American Civics.

So do I get a pass? What is the pass mark?

I scored 91%. Puritans and 2 economic questions one of which I would dispute. The tax and spend was a poor reading on my part.

Question #14 - B. stressed the sinfulness of all humanity
Question #27 - A. the price system utilizes more local knowledge of means and ends
Question #33 - D. tax per person equals government spending per person

You answered 30 out of 33 correctly — 90.91 %

Question #8 - C. appoint additional Supreme Court justices who shared his views
Question #13 - E. certain permanent moral and political truths are accessible to human reason
Question #15 - E. Thomas Jefferson’s letters

Would have gotten 15 right if I read it right. It did say 'appears in' and not is implied by.

The one question about Gov spending during a recession is screwy. It should be clear in saying what the gov has done and not imply what it should do, misleading.

What does Plato have to do with civics? Not a fair question.

I concur concerning tax per person and spending. Either specify overall spending and overall taxes in totality. The way its written makes it seem for every dollar they take I get back in service. Implies since I pay more I get more.

But to be elected do I not need to be a Citizen?
