Yes go ahead and file your taxes. You MUST do that, if you are receiving income and you reside here.
If you dont file taxes and one day you become legal or try to become legal and they find you have not been filing taxes, you will be in deep deep trouble. Dont even try it.
So, as long as you have a valid Social security number, go ahead and file your taxes;if you dont have a SS number, get what is called an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) from the IRS to enable you file taxes.
Tax filing in the US has nothing to do with your immigration status.

hey, there are two sides to this coin. 1.u have a valid SS# and it's YOURS, u can file and even get a refund check.2. you are now out of status and you don't need the heat from INS, don't file. wether u file or not, u're not gonna lose ur job and u can file next year along with this year's if u want.i was out of status for years and filed. sometimes i filed in one year for the last 2.i had a valid SS# and it was mine.i got refunds and all was ok. during my out of status time i always evaluated the situation before i filed.so, only you know if u should file or not...know what i mean..lol

You can file for your taxes as long as you have a valid SSN or ITIN in your name. The IRS doesn't report you if you are out of status so go ahead and file your taxes no problems. It will be a plus point with the INS in the future if you are able to adjust your status.
