Ceilings are actually the easiest part. If you have the typical popcorn finish there is a trick to painting it without having half the ceiling falling onto the floor and in your hair. Get the rollers that have the fabric consistency of a shaggy dog, the very fluffy kind. Be very liberal with the paint saturation and don't try to squeeze out as many rolls across the surface as you can. Just a couple swipes at most. As soon as you hear that tacky paint sound stop and get more paint on the roller.

Nope. No popcorn ceilings. Just standard texture. The general purpose rollers did just fine for those.
