here is a sad story about another lying, dirtbag illegal, who killed her own child with her own hands and then lied about all the injuries the child suffered....now then....all you dirtbag illegal alien supporters, if you think that this 'person' merits a green card after she gets out of prison, please, raise your hands.....lettsee....ivees27 (braindead)...meekas (visa cheat)....that's it...only 2 idiots....not bad

By KOMO Staff & News Services Watch the story Maribel Gomez, the Ephrata woman who was convicted of beating her 2-year-old son to death, was sentenced to 26 years and 8 months in court on Monday.

Gomez was found guilty of homicide by abuse and first-degree manslaughter last month.

Raffy Gomez was 25 months old when he died Sept. 10, 2003, of blunt head trauma while in his mother's care. He had spent a total of 14 months in foster care while healing from injuries inflicted by his 32-year-old mother that included broken legs, skull fractures, bruises and burns.

Three times, the state's Child Protective service placed the boy in foster care. Each time, the agency then returned Raffy to his birth mother in Ephrata.

The case spotlighted failures in the state's foster are system, but prosecutor John Knodell said before the trial started that it would be about the actions of Maribel Gomez.

A Grant County Superior Court judge heard the trial from the bench after Gomez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, waived her right to a trial by jury. He found Gomez recklessly and with extreme indifference to human life caused her son's death after a pattern of assault.

"Raffy couldn't come to court to testify," he said. "We're very grateful for the verdict we got."

Raffy died a day after his mother said her son violently fell backward and hit his head during a tantrum over food. Prosecutors said the boy died of blunt trauma to the head inflicted by his abusive mother, while a defense expert contended the toddler died after choking on vomit.

An autopsy indicated Raffy had suffered two broken legs, as many as four skull fractures, shoulder separations, burns and other injuries during his short life.

Born Aug. 7, 2001, with cocaine and methamphetamine in his system, Raffy was placed with the Griffiths before being returned to birth parents, Gomez and Jose Arechiga, at 10 months.

Arechiga was not charged in Raffy's death. Gomez' four other children have been placed in foster care.

After Raffy's death, DSHS conducted a review that concluded child welfare workers were biased toward the birth parents, ignored obvious signs that Raffy was in danger and failed to follow the agency's own rules.

As an illegal immigrant, Gomez faces deportation after her sentence is completed.

Hello someone12!

I kind-a-think you are barking up the wrong three here. True the mother was illegally in the country, but the report is not really about that. The report is about the failures of the foster system returning the child to the parents. Child endangerement has nothing to do with illegality and there are plenty of Americans and people all over the world for that matter that can be tainted with that. It's the governments duty to protect a child in such a situation, and obviously they haven't. Shame on them!

Anyone who mistreats a helpless child belongs in the d u n g eon and should never see the light of day ever - no matter what passports they hold!

Why for heavens sake did the officials not do anything to prevent that?
I agree with Kollerkrot, that this has nothing to do that this woman was here illegally, but it shows again how slow the system works.

This child was given back to his mother three times???? Why? So she could beat him up some more and at the end kill him?

Was it not known the first time the state took the child from her, that she was here illegally? Don’t they check that?
If it was known, why wasn’t anything done then?
The mother was a drug addict, and therefore should have been well known by the police, why did the police not investigate her status and reported to the INS?

Now, because an innocent child is dead, it is a big thing that this woman was here illegally, before that obviously nobody cared, otherwise something would have been done.

How sad!

I blame Child Protective Services for this one. Why on earth did they keep returning this child to an abusive, drug addicted mother? And, why wasn't she on the radar screen as being an illegal? Certainly, she had enough run ins with the law. I volunteer to work her over with a baseball bat before she goes back to Mexico!

They reached their level of incompetence.

Guess you've also reached a level of incompetence in that you're unable to at least just say, "here is a sad story" without the rest of your redundant dribble.

There was a case similar to that - no illegal involved in that one, here in NJ not too long ago, which caused a frenzy about child service and how incompetent they are. It caused the resignation of the head of that service here in NJ.

Come to think of it, (I love to analize) in someone12's case, this is not redundant dribble coming from him. He so hates illegals, I am sure he would have treated this case with bias also and sowith would have projected this child into his death just the same.

See what hate can do?

Well, I'm definitely not an illegal supporter, just trying to be kinder in my posts. This illegal would have beaten the $hit out of her child wherever she was - she was a drug-addicted lunatic (I don't think she became this way because she was in the US?) However, CPS had the opportunity not once, but three times to remove this child from harm's way and didn't do it. Yes, I blame the mother, but I put most of the blame on CPS for not doing their job. That baby would still be alive had he been removed from this lunatic's custody.

Someone12,

I usually don’t care to much how you express you opinion (where sometimes I think you postings are funny), but you don’t seem to be a stupid person.

Why would an educated man like you make such a stupid comment?
Of course it would have happened, I think it would have even been worse.
This woman would have killed an American baby in a foreign country, and probably nobody would have punished her for that.
If you like it or not, that child was an USC.

What I find quite irritating, is that this woman will face deportation after her sentence in prison.
I am not sure, why she would deserve the “ comfort” of an American prison and have tax dollars spend on this comfort.
Don’t get me wrong, I know, a prison is not the Hilton, but compared to how some less- fortunate people have got to live, it is decent.. warm water, food, a doctor, education….
If it would be up to me, I would send her back to her country, and would let her serve the time in a prison in her country (I assume the prisons from wherever she came from are not that nice)

And, I think you'd like to take a few turns with the baseball bat, too, Vegado. This is just too sorry for words. That poor baby.

If you don't mind sharing your bat, I would be happy to take a turn or two.

This happens nearly everyday somewhere
We all know that the mother shouldn’t have done this in the first place, but obviously she was messed up.
Why did the system fail? Why did CPS not do anything? Isn’t that what they get paid for? Paid with tax money- and it seem like that theses taxes could have been spend somewhere else, since CPS doesn’t do their job anyway.
A lousy “ Uh we are sorry – with some ridiculous reason why they couldn’t do anything- and we promise it won’t happen again” won’t do it, because we all know, it will happen again.
It is not only sad and horrible; it is aggravating, irritating and absolutely not understandable why nobody cared enough about that child, to save it’s life. This child could have been the future President, a Nobel Prize Winner, a Scientist who found the cure for cancer or just the mechanic, who fixes your brakes, so you can drive home safely and enjoy the evening with you family.
