I was in US on J1 visa in 1999-2000 and I am subject to foreign residency requirement (2 years). I went home for a year (2000-2001), but then I got F1 visa and came here. My F1 is good till May, I am getting married to a LPR in April. Will the remaining 1 year of foreign residency be a problem for me?

Persik,

I dont know how you got a F1 visa and entered the US with only completing one year of residency. Did you apply for a J-1 waiver?

I got F1 visa because I got accepted in one of the universities for MBA here,so I collected all the necessary paperwork (GMAT, financials, etc) and somehow they issued me F1. I didn't apply for J1 weaver. Does the fact that they issued F1 for me means I automatically relieved from the foreign residency requirement?
At the embassy I was said that even I have a year left, it can be cummulative and every time I go back, the period spent back home will count towards the year that I had left.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot for any input, it is greately appreciated
