A Republican senator is calling for the White House to suspend a new project that asks members of the public to flag “fishy” claims about President Obama’s health care plans, arguing that it raises privacy concerns and will serve to chill free speech.

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is sending a letter to the White House today asking the president to “cease this program immediately” -- or to explain how Americans’ privacy will be protected if e-mails are forwarded to the White House as requested.

“I am not aware of any precedent for a President asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed ‘fishy’ or otherwise inimical to the White House’s political interests,” Cornyn writes

I find it disturbing the way this government is handling their critics as well. But, they have plenty of soldiers to do the job for them, as evidenced by the broken record arguments of some here who automatically assume that any criticism of Obama means you're racist or an extremist and rather than come up with a decent argument, go back to Iraq and Hitler.

Center/left kind It's true the "Blue Dog" Democrats have been somewhat vocal against the cost of healthcare reform but nothing like the out and out ultra Right wing "Heil Hitler" kind.

You do know that Hitler's politics were more left wing than right and that his Nazi party were known as the National Socialist German Workers' Party, don't you?

I do know he called it the National Socialist German Workers' Party but it had nothing to do with Socialism as we think of it. He was a Dictator that ruled the roost with a National Facist Right wing regime. To say this is "socialist" in some way is a bit far fetched. He may have had some "socialist" ideas early on but those disappeared as he became more powerful:

Ultimately, left unchecked, extreme Left or Right wing philosophies end up being very similar. Just goes to show allowing extremist groups like the BNP in UK to become too powerful is a bad thing for the majority. It will destroy a country.

While I agree that he did lose many of his socialist ideas down the path, some remained, no matter how much we wish to deny it. People like Hitler don't just stick to one thing. They bend the rules and pick and choose whatever will fit their own ideology and their own goals. We see it all the time even in modern politics.
