Hello Friends,
Just had a quick question. Me and my wife are traveling to India in Oct and I have a 5-6 hour stopover in London (and on return as well) I was wondering do I need a UK transit visa? I am an Indian citizen and a US Permanent Resident (Green-card holder) and my wife is a USC. Thanks for all your help friends. I really appreciate it. Thanks.

Raju

Well Raju, if you do not want to go out of the air port at UK then you do not need a UK visa as long as your Permanent Resident Card is valid. Even if you want to stay there for less than 24 hours you can request the immigration officer at the port of entry in UK. They usually let the people go out for less than 24 hours, having a valid US visa or green card.

Hello RationalE,ProudUSC,Someone12,Jake01
Thank you for your response. Well after reading UK consulate visa page it looks like people need transit visa if their green-card was issued BEFORE April 1998. Well mine was issued in Aug 2005 and is valid till 2015 so I guess I don’t need a visa. Thank you so much for your response friends I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
Raju

Hello Young Man,
Thank you for your response. No me and my wife will be in London airport for just few hour or so then we fly to India so no time to go out of the airport. Thank god I don’t need a visa waste of time and money. Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it.

It will probably take 6 hrs just to get to your next terminal and gate! lol
You are right though, you would really not have time to leave the airport anyway, and security takes ages to get back through.

Have a safe trip Smile

Raju, Im sure you have everything sorted already but make sure that your USC wife has the right docs to go to India, my USC friend booked a flight to India last summer and wasn't told he needed a visa.
He got as far as (can't remember where now), but he was sent back to Texas due to no visa.
He was furious.

Raju, if your stop is either Gatwick or Heathrow, then you will not really be near any sites, as Heathrow is west of London, and Gatwick is East of London, and both are situated on the M25 (London Orbital) so you would have to travel about 15 - 20 miles to get into the inner city of London. I know Gatwick has plenty of shops to look around, and a Pub (bar) but expensive, Im sure they have a Harrods in the Airport too, which is one of the High class London shops of Knightsbridge.

happy travels.

They moved Gatwick?

When?

Put it on a lorry and drove it around the M25?

well I thought I'd get some comment on that, so I will correct myself, SSE is that to your liking theone. West Sussex and East Sussex actually covers the bottom right of the map of England, (the bottom heel) doh!!!!

And I suppose it depends which way you go round the M25 from heathrow to get to Gatwick, would you go West all the way around the top of London, cos I would go East, less miles,

If you want to get really picky, Gatwick isn't even on the M25, it's on the M23.

And Moving a building isn't so stupid as you may think, if you are in the USA try looking around when you go out, if you are back in Britian, there is a tv programme called big moves, I suggest you watch it, they actually moved a bloody great mansion using Lorries (Semi's).
