Guys,

I went to apply for an SSN at the local office and tried to show my Chinese birth certificate, which, for some stupid communist political reasons back then, was a notarized document, and the Chinese government kept the original ones.

I was told that Social Security Administration doesn't accept notarized documents. So there I couldn't use my notarized birth certificate for SSA purposes even though every US embassy accepts it.

Fortunately, I have my old passport at home and it can be used as a proof of my age in lieu of the unaccepted birth certificates.

This is a real and a sad case for those new Chinese immigrants out there...
