This topic has nothing to do with immigration, but I know there are a few military members or spouses of military members here on the board.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day! Friday, May 11th ---------------
Today's Army is built on a legacy of great men and women who have shaped it into the greatest Army in the world. However this would not have been possible without the unending dedication and support of a very special group of people, which the military will pay tribute to on May 11 this year.
That special group of people is military spouses. Our Soldiers would not be able to fight and win our nation's wars without the peace of mind that things are fine back at home. Now, more than ever, military spouses are the true strength behind the Army. Since the Army's earliest days, spouses have been the strength of support for Soldiers, a rich tradition that continues today.
President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of the military spouse's commitment to the readiness and Well-Being of servicemembers, and on May 23, 1984, he signed a proclamation that set aside the Friday before Mother's Day each year as Military Spouse Day.
In the two-plus decades since, the mettle of military spouses continues to be tested as our Soldiers have been called to duty to fight America's Global War on Terrorism. With the recent shift in Army policy that will expand the length of Soldiers' combat tours in Iraq from 12 to 15 months it will continue to be tested.
This year, Military Spouse Day will be observed on May 11, so please take time on that day to extend a special thanks to military spouses for the special part they play in keeping our Army Strong!
