you might have seen me around trying to help people the best I can. As an immigrant myself I understand lots of frustration going around and it's sometimes hard to restrain yourself but it also annoys me seeing this forum being abused by profanity and off-topic remarks.
I have sent numerous emails to the webmaster(s) of this site to urge for registration before posting and moderators but with no luck (sofar).
I know some very helpfull people have left this board due to these matters. But there are still plenty of others who perform great duty to others.
None of use are getting paid for our 'advices' and most aren't even lawyers but this doesn't mean we don't like to help people.
So thinking about all this I thought it might be a good idea, and I stress 'might' to create our own board but with the aboved mentioned features.
This is just a thought and possible a silly one but I would still like to hear your opinions.
If some of you would be interested we might get it to work.
Please post any thoughts, good or bad, but... please restarin yourself from any profanity.
God bless you all. Thank you for listening.

I am a USC and have an immigration matter as well. I was able to educate myself extensively through research about the INA and the psychology behind it. However even with all that knowledge, I'm still not equipped to know everything about my situation. Most of what I have in question can only be answered by life experiences and that's when I turned to this board. Believe it or not, I was able to gather so much information on this board. I also found people that are very helpful...such as Mohan and Brownfox...and others. These people spend their time posting relevant helpful information for those people that needs help. If you really look deep into it, these people don't even get paid doing this but and yet they do it. Good samaritans!!!. On the other side of the coin, there are these posters not only use profanity words but just to insult and show hatred which is quite unexplainble in my opinion. Whatever the case may be...I am for the good and better life.

I'd follow you Xandtrick.
I'm sent a whole bunch of emails to the webmasters about registering. Just this week someone posted something using my name. I guess they didn't have the nerve to use their own name.

Why don't you create a group, like on yahoo or msn, and then invite those you want to join the group? YOu have some amount of control over it; you may specify it as an "invitation only" group...meaning not anyone who searches and come up with your group can join. Or you can set it up with members only and you, as the owner, can review the potentional members.
I am on several groups where the topic conerns me. In fact there is a "usvisa" group. For some, you just click click click and you are in. For others, you may get an email from the group owner with a list of questions to answer first. You can set it up however you want.
for an example, go to www.groups.yahoo.com. Look around. Good luck!

Hi.
I set up a MSN group (accessible to anyone) at:
groups.msn.com/BusinessImmigrationForum
Although the focus is on business immigration, I invite anyone to post and participate. Since I am the group's manager, I have editorial powers to delete any messages that do not pertain to the group's scope.
I believe that we need to have a central meeting point for serious persons interested and/or involved with immigration to support one another and to provide friendly advice when requested.

This is a good Idea. Before President Talked about puting the Board But he never done. You got my vote if you are really serious. I really work hard to get these answers to help others ,but Due to these hate posters( which I partly read), I waste time, I should be using same time to get answer to other questions. These days some other people post their message AS MOHAN. I,m also thinking to leave this board.

Can you still get a version of UBB that's still free? You can also get FuseTalk, its a very good Message Board software (but extermely pricey though). I'll be more than willing to be a moderator exclusively dedicated at deleting non-related topics :)

I would like to join your forum and participate - I can't contribute much but am learning a lot from many of you, but it's hard to sift through the hate-mongering and unrelated, often profane trash on this board. Keep us posted - I have looked for other forums but unfortunately have only found people arguing, threatening and accusing. I need to learn more to help my company and coworkers, and I can't do it on this board.

xandtrick, Do you have any webhosting plan/provider already in mind? Have some pieces already in place? Or is it everything still in theory and ideas at this point ?

Forgot to add, i think a webhosting who offers php 4 & mysql, coupled with one of those freely available php based Bulletin Board, will be the cheapest solution at the present time.

We are indeed looking for a cheap solution for the time being to see if the forum will be used.
Once it get rolling we will move it to a paying host with more bandwith etc.
Marie is currently working on a trialversion of the forum and we will keep you posted.
Thank you for the interest

I've been waiting for this for a long time , count me in. Hope we could answer most immigration problems just by brainstorming. I know most of us are just ordinary people but sometimes life experience will guide us to the right direction. Let's ROLL!!!!

Thank you all for your ideas.
I'd like to share this info, as found in the ILW Discussion Board Disclaimer:
"Please use common courtesy, and refrain from using foul language. Posters of inappropriate messages will be barred from the discussion board."
Unfortunately, there is no control over any message posted here. Free-speech is a wonderful gift, but "speaking freely" while anonymous - or worse, while impersonating other users - is irresponsible and sometimes detrimental.
I've seen questions posted on this forum on why and how to comply with the Special Registration rules, for example. Some users asked: "Should I go to the INS office or should I hide and wait?" Many different answers were posted: "Go immediately." "Wait." "Hide." "Run away." "Go back to your country - we don't want you here!"
Of course, the inquirer will not take into account this last response, but how to discern over the other replies? Everybody counts on helpful hints from Brownfox, Mohan, Alennbert, Xandtrick, Umesh Passi and from other well known friendly users. But what if a fake "Brownfox" or "Mohan" tells me to avoid Registration in order to ruin my life?
Many of decisions made today based on messages posted here will change a person's life forever.
Obviously everyone should consider consulting with an experienced lawyer before initiating any legal procedure, especially regarding Immigration matters, but sometimes we just want to hear sympathetic words before going to a lawyer (have you seen how many posters say that "all lawyers are dishonest and useless"?), or even share great deal of information about past contacts with an INS office, etc.
This current board is a wonderful instrument, and I thank ILW's initiative for that. However, as any other easily accessed tool, it can be used for malevolent purposes.
I'll support this to-be-created discussion group and try to help as often as I can. Thank you.
