Hi everybody,
I'm a permanent resident for several years now.
An emergency family situation requires me to go back to my homecountry for a while. I have no idea how long I will be staying, it could be months.

How long am I allowed to stay abroad without loosing my residency? I will have to do some back and forth because I will miss my huband very much but in case I can't travel as much as I thought I'd be able to, I need to know.

My concern is that although I was a conditionnal resident for 3 years, it was only this past November when my condition was removed and received my new green card. I'm affraid that it's going to look suspicious.

I was looking through CIS's website and could not find anything concerning that subject.
Thank you!

Depends on whether you want to file for US citizenship within a reasonable future. If so, you need 5 years of unreliquished residence in the USA. If you a a LPR, The law allows you to travel outside the USA as much as you want ,as long as you return to the US within 180 days of departure. If you intend to stay away for more than 6 months, you can file a Petition To Return to Unreliquished Domicile Form ( I-191) .The fee is $250. You can dowmload the form on the INS website and read the instructions very carefully. Good luck
