MONROE — Two Texas men are behind bars after Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies confiscated five packages of cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 20.
Deputies confiscated cocaine valued at $250,000 from the two suspects. One of them was cited for driving illegally in the United States, said Lt. Larry Knight, head of the Ouachita sheriff's office Special Crime Apprehension Team.
The team stopped a vehicle traveling in the eastbound lane for improper lane usage in western Ouachita Parish, arrest reports stated.
During questioning, the driver, Santana Mora Santibanez Renteria, 33, who gave a Dallas address, appeared nervous, the report stated.
Deputies then talked to the passenger, Timoteo Rubion Ona, 34, address unknown, and both men gave conflicting stories on their travels.
The SCAT Team received permission from the men to search the vehicle and found five individually wrapped packages of cocaine with a total weight of 2,872 grams.
Ona and Renteria admitted to investigators that they were taking the cocaine from Dallas to Goldsboro, N.C., to sell and that they are illegal immigrants from Mexico.
Metro agents arrested and charged each man with possession of more than 400 grams of cocaine and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Renteria was additionally charged with operating a vehicle without lawful presence in the U.S. and improper lane usage.
Ona and Renteria were booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center.
Ona's bond is $500,000 and Renteria's bond is $450,150. No bond was set for Renteria's operating a vehicle unlawfully charge.
