Did you change your name whne you became naturalized?

And what does your SS card say? Does it have the phrase, "not valid for employment unless DHS approval" or something similar?

When the USA goverment starts EVERify soon, they will check your immigration status with your social security number, and see that you are a citizen. You need to go to your local office and update your status with them. you still keep the same number. Bring your naturalization papers you got at the ceromony with you, along with your new american passport

Considering that naturalized citizens are the greatest at risk for false positives while the safe harbor laws are too burdensome for most employees, the E-verify system should be scrapped.

He really does not need to go to the SS office to update the records. Both SSA and DHS share the info on immigration status.

Found this information for new US Citizens and what to do after Oath Ceremony: (not sure how updated it is).

Step 5. Report Your Change in Citizenship to the Social Security Administration

The Social Security Administration requires any person who has a change in his or her immigration or citizenship status to report that change to the Social Security Administration (see Your Social Security Number And Card ).

Reporting this change is actually to the benefit of you, the new citizen. Why?

* The social security database will be updated showing you as a US citizen. This database is shared with all federal agencies and many state agencies further validating your US citizenship status with the federal and state governments.
* With your social security records updated showing you as a US citizen, it will be much easier in the future to apply for and receive all social security benefits entitled to you.
* If you ever have to replace your social security card, obtaining a new card will be easier now that you are a US citizen.
* Lastly, in some states, certain disability benefits are only available to US citizens. By changing your citizenship status with the Social Security Administration you will ensure you receive all disability, retirement and social security benefits for which you qualify as a US citizen.

You must report the change by completing Form SS-5 and by visiting your local Social Security Administration office in person. The change can be done by mail, but we do not recommend it. To find the office nearest you, see Office Locator.

When you visit the Social Security Administration office, you must bring proof of US citizenship such as your Certificate of Naturalization or your US passport and some other form of picture ID such as a driver’s license. You must also bring the completed Form SS-5 or you can just obtain the form there and complete it while you are waiting.

Your will be interviewed by the Social Security Administration office staff. They will verify your citizenship and then update your records. Updating your social security records will not result in a new social security card being issued to you unless there were restrictions on your old card. If you would like a new social security card, make a request for one during your interview with the office staff.

Wrong,E-verify will pass and go thru. It is 99 percent effective and takes less than 1 minute to verify. If there is a problem with naturalized citizens they should have fixed it long ago, name change, etc.

My God, someone else on this forum with a brain! I salute your obvious intelligence.

Add photo capability from current DMV databases and it will be fool proof. A great way to stop illegal alien identity theft. Protect American jobs. All without having to hire millions of DOH workers to round them up. They will leave on their own when they get hungry enough.

Uhm, NO! A 2002 DHS study of a sample of E-Verify queries found that 42 percent of employees deemed ineligible by E-Verify were actually eligible for employment.

And what about the rest of those stats? 42% of what? Your percentage is based on employer happiness with program. Not the facts of weeding out illegals.

As surprised as I was to learn that there was concern with employers liking the program, its there. Aside that here are some other numbers. On average it took 2.1 days to fix a no-auth that should have been authorized. How many errors were there really, not many.

In several cases the employers complained because the system kept catching illegals and caused a high turn over. Wow, I guess that is a legitimate gripe. Another was how a person was treated that came up unauthorized to work. Why would that matter? They also looked at people's willingness to hire immigrants who used the system. Again, why does that matter?

Others complained about training requirements. How difficult can it be to type in a person's name and SSN?

This is priceless. They noted a large increase in the number of people reporting US citizenship on I-9 forms. Would that mean people are not being truthful?

Bottom line is this. Even under beta testing protocols its success was good at doing what it is supposed to do. Keep an illegal from working illegally.

Oh, USCIS doesn't seem to be so displeased with it either:

"The Web Basic Pilot is not a static system; the Federal government has made changes to
the system since its introduction in June 2004 and continues to make and plan for
additional enhancements. For example, USCIS is currently running a pilot program
designed to increase the Web Basic Pilot’s potential to detect identity fraud through the
use of photographs. If this proves to be useful and is implemented for all employers, it
would significantly affect the current program and would need additional evaluation to
determine its effect"

More info on E-verify.

Look at this! They took my advice.

"--------------------------------------------"
Photo Tool

E-Verify's Photo Screening Tool is the beginning of biometric verification within the E-Verify system. This additional feature will be the first step in giving employers the tools they need to detect identity theft in the employment eligibility process.

The Photo Screening Tool feature allows an employer to check the photo on his or her new hire's Employment Authorization Document (EAD) or Permanent Resident Card ("Green Card") against the 14.8 million images stored in DHS immigration databases."
"----------------------------------------------"

That isn't all. According to official site the mismatch rate is about 5.5%. However, guess howmany of these real illegals. About 5%. That means the real failure rate is at 0.5%

E-verify

Moving Forward With E-Verify: Program to Check Legal Status Already 99.5% Accurate

Last update: 9:30 a.m. EDT Sept. 19, 2008
WASHINGTON, Sept 19, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The E-Verify program, which allows employers to check the immigration status of new employees, has been steadily improving and is now 99.5 percent accurate, according to a new paper by the Center for Immigration Studies. This voluntary program is already screening more than one in ten new hires nationwide, and as of September 13, 2008, has processed 6.21 million queries.
E-Verify is set to expire on November 30, 2008, unless it is re-authorized by Congress. The House of Representatives has already passed a reauthorization bill by a vote of 407-2. The Senate has yet to take action.
To help inform debate over E-Verify, the Center for Immigration Studies has produced a thorough evaluation. The Backgrounder, entitled "If It's Fixed, Don't Break It: Moving Forward with E-Verify," is authored by Janice Kephart, Director of National Security Studies at the Center and a former counsel to the 9/11 Commission. The report covers the many facets of the E-Verify debate: statistics regarding usage, cost, and effectiveness; legislative history; executive orders affecting the program; the relationship of E-Verify to worksite enforcement; and past improvements to the program as well as future goals.
The report is available online at www.cis.org. Among the findings:
-- As of the first half of FY 2007, only one-half of one percent of
eligible employees screened had to take additional steps (like
correcting Social Security records) to obtain work authorization;
overall, the system is 99.5% accurate.

-- More than 93 percent of employees are verified within five seconds;
another 1.2 percent are verified within 24 hours. A new Photo Screening
Tool and a streamlined procedure for naturalized citizens to receive
authorization are increasing accuracy and efficiency for employers and
employees; naturalized citizens no longer need to take remedial action
at Social Security.

-- About 5 percent of new employees are not confirmed as work authorized,
mirroring the same percentage of illegal aliens estimated to be in the
labor force.

-- When E-Verify became web-based later in 2004, 1,533 employers had signed
up. As of September 13, 2008, there are 85,816 employers representing
over 446,000 sites and over 6.21 million queries processed. Currently,
about 1,000 new employers join per week.

-- Eleven states require use of E-Verify in certain circumstances (AZ, CO,
GA, ID, MN, MO, MS, NC, OK, RI, and UT).
