I entered the USA 3 years ago under a H1B visa to work as a plant biologist. 1 year ago, I transferred within my company to take a netowrk services computer job. At no time did my employer ever say this would be a problem. Now in 2007, my lawyer contacted the employer one month before my visa would expire to talk aboiut renewal. They said they wouldn't have enough time to extend my visa, and then FIRED me, saying that I was no longer legal after I switched jobs.
I now know not what to do. I am out of work and out of the country, my employer did NOTHING to extend my visa even though they sponsored me to get the H1B visa in the beginning. And I've been FIRED because they said I wasn't eligible anymore after I switched jobs in the company months ago.
Does anyone have resources showing that the employer must ensure I stay legal in my position and start the renewal process? Thank you for your time.
