Found this abstract from some article. You should check each states DMV's individually if the info is still valid. "Washington is among 10 states that don't now require proof of citizenship or legal status. The others are Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Wisconsin and Utah. Tennessee issues special certificates to people who cannot prove they are legal residents".

NO Illegal by the way should have a US drivers license,since a US drivers license is also considered as a valid legal ID...and you can not give an illegal driving privilege,if he or she does not belong to this country in the first place.And have them have an ID and allow them to travel by airplanes etc etc.PERIOD. But some states I guess don't care..which is pretty low.
In OHIO you MUST show legal papers,regardless of you are a citizen or not,you have to have another legal ID or paper showing you are who u are and you are legal...
