They processed my I-751 about 3 months after my date came up (according to the processing dates listed on their web page). I should have been processed in late March and I didn't hear until late June.
Sent I-751 packet on 4/15/03 by express mail. Return receipt dated 4/16/03. NOA received 4/28/03 (dated 4/16/03) stating that I-551 extended for a year. Processing will take at least 120 days and to call back TSC if we haven't heard anything in 6 months. The number provided to call TSC was changed so it forwards to the National Call Center now. I called that number in December / 03 because I had still not heard anything. The operator just referred me to the published TSC I-751 processing times (i.e. there is no point in calling).
We included the following in our packet:
Check for $145.00 Form I-751 Copy of Permanent Resident Card Affidavit - friend #1 (and notarized) Affidavit - friend #2 (and notarized) Copy of Marriage Certificate Copy of joint credit cards (same acct numbers and address) Copy of joint bank account (same address, shared bills) Copy of IRAs showing respective spouse as beneficiary Copy of jointly filed income taxes - 2002 Copy of jointly filed income taxes - 2001 Photo of us on vacation 8/9/02 in Arizona Photo of us on vacation 8/13/02 in Arizona Wedding invitation from a relative addressed to us showing we have the same joint address Copy of flight itinerary to said wedding (listed in #14) for both of us (showing same billing address, same flights)

Well, we went to Boston this morning to hand in the necessary material for our 10-yr green card.
We left the house at 0350 and made the 2 hr 15 min drive to Boston. There was a ton of construction on the Govt Center off ramp and we missed the turn after we exited the southbound I-93. We drove around lost for awhile and then returned back on I-93 and exited from the northbound lanes and found the signs much clearer through the construction area. We parked and headed for the main door. We were stopped by security and asked to head around to the side door. We arrived at the line at 0625. There were 46 people ahead of us in line. By the time the doors opened at 0700, there were 74 people behind us. One enters the security area and then people line up to head into room E-160. There were two people at a desk acting like a triage and directing people to where they had to go and handing out numbers depending upon what people were there for.
We had a nasty woman in a bad mood (and we saw her only about 10 mins after she had been working - hardly time to get in a bad mood). She made some disparaging remark about the quality of my photos. The letter I received from USCIS said to bring my passport and 3 photos. Of course, I brought the letter, the passport, the 3 photos, and my expired green card (not asked for in the letter). She asked me if this was the original letter and I assured her it was. We were given # H716 (i.e. the 16th group in line for whatever category we were in). She told us to go back out into the lobby where the forms desk was to get fingerprinted and then to come back in and take a seat. We went out to the forms desk and I was asked to sign my name twice (front and back of a blank form) and then she took my index finger fingerprint for the front and back of the form. She then instructed us to not bend or fold the new form but to hand it to the office when our number was called.
There were numbers handed out for general inquiries, numbers for replacement cards, numbers for adjudication, and then numbers for people like us (I'm not sure what our category was). The stub on the ticket said we should expect it to take 58 mins. By 0815 my number was called and I provided the USCIS employee with my new form with the fingerprint, the 3 photos, the expired green card, and my passport. She filled out the fingerprint form, stapled the 3 photos to it, asked me if I had my expired green card (I told her she already had it and she laughed), she stamped the passport and extended the I-551 until 23 June 05 (one year from my approval date - not one year from today). She said to use the passport stamp as my green card until my new card arrives in about 6 months. She did not look to see when my passport expired (it expires in 6 months).
We were back on the road at 0830 and back home by 1100. Now we are just waiting for the new card and the N-400 to be adjudicated.
Sounds like a classic experience at a district office. That is exactly what to expect on a district office visit - although I am VERY impressed!!! Out by 8:30 - that must be some sort of record! Normally, it would take a couple of hours if you are at the front of the line - sounds like you guys zipped right through! It took me until 11:00 last time...
As you may have read in my comments on other posts, that I-551 stamp will do just fine as a GC. I crossed the border again with no issues at all on Wednesday. Well - other than the fact that they are starting to have a hard time to find empty space in the passport to stamp! That's two I have filled up now...
Good luck and let us know when your GC actually arrives in the mail (I'll do the same)....
Thanks for the note ARQU. Yes, I've traveled on the stamp many times (back when I received the conditional PR status). Like you, I've been interacting with the INS,BCIS,USCIS for many years. I started out with my first TN visa back in '95 and have been dealing with them ever since.
I'm counting down the days until I don't have to ever deal with them.
Sure, I'll let you know when I get the card. You do the same. Us canucks have to stick together, eh...

Just wondering if you had received your card yet? It's been almost 8 weeks since my I-751 was processed. So much for the 3-4 weeks to receive the card...
I am headed to Newark next week (INFOPASS App't was required) to get my son a new GC as well now as he turned 14. Another $255 bucks and who knows how long that one will take as well...
