I have been searching in vain for information on the board about real help with immigration issues and have seen a few, very few that appear relavent. Many of the topics I see that start out serious have no responses to them. I am looking for information regarding the Phoenix INS just like another poster who has had no responses. My fiance is coming soon and I want to be prepared for the best way to get his EAD, SSN and so forth. Are there any serious answers out there? I am begining to thing there are alot of people on this board that may belong to terrorist organizations and causing trouble only and really don't wish to do anything but cause division and hate. This is sad for those of us who wish to get good information and do this whole thing right. You know the old line that the way the bad guys will get America is from within! I can see it here. I wish these people would realize we see their game. Well is there anyone out there that could please share their true experiences with me instead of getting into a political argument. Thank you.

Sharon,

he needs to file the paperwork in his home country...a fiance visa and all that.

You haven't told us what you've filed if anything.

Usually posts with no answers means no one knows. We're people trying to help other people.

Sharon, I hate to break it to you but the real bad guys are occupying the highest offices in Washington. Bush, Ashcroft and company are doing way more damage to America than any terrorist. Of course if things keep going this way, the US will become a fascist police state and no one will want to immigrate here anyway! Problems solved.

Sorry Marie but to explain further my fiance has his consulate interview on 2/12. We have been extremely thorough and we are all set to go. He will just need to get his Visa next Wednesday. I am very excited! But I was hoping to get what different people have found in crossing the boarder, the temporary EAD, getting the SSN and so forth. Another poster spoke of the Kamya site with the Phoenix experiences and I have read them but they are not very up to date and with alot of recent developments I was hoping to find some things more recent. And as far as negative postings to my original note I do not care to respond as those individuals as they only go to prove the point I already made when I started. And I refuse to fall pray to their rude, incipid, uninformed and uneducated opinions and remarks. Thanks Marie for asking for alittle more detail. Maybe you would have some info. I would really appreciate it.

Well once he gets his fiance visa and comes over, you'll be able to adjust his status.

Here is the forms you need to file once you guys are married.

After he gets his work permit he can go and get his SSN and you'll be well on your way.

I can tell you how my husband sponsored me many years ago:
he filed for a k-1 visa (fiancee) which is valid for 3 months. I had to travel during that time and we had to make a decision on marriage in that amount of time. We knew each other for a minimum of 1 yr. before (though it was a long distance relationship, he being stationed in the Meditarean, me being in Europe). Then I came, I received a work permit at the airport for the validity of the k-1 visa only.

Remember that you should apply for a SSN as soon as possible (before the EAD expires) and right after you get married, and then adjusted your status with INS accordingly.

We've been happily married ever since (11+ yrs.) with children. He is of Jewish background, and I'm of Muslim background. I wish everyone could be just a bit openminded to see that peace can work, at home as well as in the world!

Hatemongors are sad people who have personal problems and who love to distract from their personal unhappyness into political, cultural and religeous crises. Good luck to you, Sharon!

Thank you so much for your lovely story of your immigration. It can serve as an inspiration to others. Thanks to all that are giving me information in this issue. If there is anyone out there also with experiences recently in crossing the border and obtaining their temporary EADs please let me know. My fiance is coming from British Columbia, Canada he is a born in Canada citizen. Keynep you have also shown me and many others by your story that there are probably far more people out there that are not having problems with the process than there are people who are having problems. I have found it to be a relatively simple process as long as you are careful and follow the rules and read everything thoroughly. I am beginning to think that all those who are having problems have brought it on themselves. I have met many more immigrants who have never had a problem and I think it was because they were decent law abiding citizens just trying to do the right things.

actually we had some problems, because certain people from certain backgrounds are first considered fraudelent by INS, I believe (especially if a large number of people from that background or nationality are committing fraud and or misrepresantations).

In the beginning I was surprised when I immediatly received a work permit at the airport, but once that work permit expired (we had married by then and applied for adjustment of status), I had no proof of my status and could not obtain a social security number for over 8 months until I received the conditonal card.

Once that card expired (because we moved on miliatry orders again), our "removal of condition" was filed by INS as "abondened" even though it wasn't, of course.

All I'm saying is even if you do everything right, immigration law is so complex and INS is being so suspicious that problems can and may happen (like in our case). But if people hold together and concentrate on what's important, peace at home, love and persistence that it can work out! Let other people's problem not discourage you, but try to avoid the same mistake so that yours hopefully will go smother! Good luck!

I have similar situation as yours. We used to be in the military, we moved a lot and not knowing anything about immigration law we made the biggest mistake in our lives. INS terminated my AOS because of abandonment. I never knew I will communicate with them all the time.People in this board are so lucky they have Mohan, brownfox, umesh to help everybody with problems. During my time , we don't have computer at home, nor cellphone, modern tech came out easily that we can be informed if we'll just hang around in this board.

when we moved (during the removal of the conditon), my husband notified INS two ways and certified (Washington D.C. as well as the local INS office), gave them his new military address (since we did not know where we were going to reside before we were there) and everything. He did everything by the book).

Still, we had to go to the new INS office several times and request a new card. They told us that the other office had filed "case abondened", "fraudelent marriage" (I guess that is a standard precedure), because we had allegedly not showed up for the "removal of condition" interview (which of course was not true). We suggested to do another interview then and asked to come during certain times (since my husband was stationed on a boat then which was leaving for long patrols - 5-8 weeks at times). In the end it took a letter from his commanding officer... (long story, but it brought in results quickly!)

When your spouse is in the military, you pretty much have very little say on where you are going to be, since you're moving every 2-3 yrs. But keep on insisting on getting your status straightened out (fortunatly, my husband did everything for me, I would have never known or guessed how important and serious all this could have been). If your spouse is not helping you, insist on his help! It's important for your future!

When your fiance arrives in the United States. Get married and file sponsorship papers and AOS papers together. Before filing these papers do not forget to check prevailing fee on www.ins.usdoj.gov because the INS has removed some surcharges on the fee, thus reducing the fee.
Good luck.
