My mother in law is trying to apply for her citizenship. She has been a permanent resident for 10 years and is over 60 years old. I am trying to find out if she can be exempt from the interview process as she has many medical difficulties. She has high blood pressure, which I don't think would matter, but she has cataracts in her eyes, making it difficult to see as well as problems with her ears and hearing. Would she be able to apply for the exemption to the testing? Any comments would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

If someone is 50 years old and has been a resident for the past 20 years, that person only has to take the civics test,not the english test. And the civics test can be taken in their language of choice,but the civics is a requirement,no otherway around.EVERYONE has to take the test,even if you are blind or have hearing problems.

You have to be examined (interviewed) for Citizenship. No waivers. But HBKHBK is right, there is a waiver for the English test part but that's it.

pls. try form n-648 for exemption from both civics and enlgish tests, but disability & inpairment should be justified by a doctor.
