I am Swedish and married an American man a few years ago in the Washington, D.C. area. We lived together in Silver Spring, Maryland until a week ago when I moved back to Sweden.

I can get divorced pretty quickly and easily from Sweden but my question is whether or not the divorce will apply in the United States? If not, which steps should I take?

I would like to do it all from Sweden if that is possible? I understand that this is not the sort of question you usually deal with on this site, but I would really appreciate some advice. Thank you.
