Hi,
My husband has an E3 visa and I a E3D visa. I have applied for the employment authority doc - I-765 which i need to prove to employers that I am able to work. This authority can take up to 11 weeks to receive and I still have another 5 weeks to go. I have just received a great job offer but they need to know when i can start. I am not certain of an exact date I will receive my paper work though! I am worried I will loose the offer and I also financially need to start working asap.
Can I start work before I receive the EAD docs? Can I get a letter from an attorney to give to my employer stating that I am legit?
My husband starting working before he received his social and this was not too much of a problem.
Please help!
Thanks, Laura

To work before the approval of your application is categorized as an unauthorized employment. You're legit to stay but you're not legit to work, just yet. It may be your boon while it could be your employer's doom, so much so that the USCIS has renewed the implementation of Form I-9 compliance for employers. Some employers and prospective employees in the same situation use the disguise of "unpaid orientation" with pecuniary matters to be reconciled later. Ahh well...
