Why didn't you shout all this when you were assisting applicants in filling out their immigration forms?

S12: I agree on the teaching responsibility part, to my son, I mean when he came to visit me while waiting deportation he asked me why was in jail. My very first though was to make an excuse and my answer was that they put me in jail just because I wanted to work.
Later on we had a chat and I had to explain him the truth, his opinion of me is the most important aspect in my life, (remember he is right here next to me) So I told him that I lied and therefore I was deported and I dragged the whole family because of my lack of responsibility, I believe such chat was very important because I do not want him to grow bitter or not to be respectful of any country’s laws. Facing the consequences and being accountable is also being responsible.

Vegado: You are correct with your statement, As I stated before, this question begun because my son attends an American school here, and the subject he raised was world immigration to various countries, he wanted to know why people immigrate and what makes them criminals for overstaying.

Let me share why I overstayed even though is not an excuse is just a plain explanation;

Being an officer in the army as part of the special forces I was order to kill a man and his family because the head of household was cooperating with the Guerrilla and misleading the army (he was an informant for the army) The order included to kill them and to leave a significant signal so the community will not follow his example. I refuse to comply with the order, I found a way to leak this information to him, and he was able to run away to the USA we never found him or his family.

I was fired from the army when it was discovered what I had done, so I flew to the USA, with the intent to wait at least three months while the human rights office in Guatemala find a way to guarantee my safety, I run out of money and my return airline ticket expired, I became homeless, slept under the 405 freeway in San Fernando Valley CA. my family told me that I was in danger to return, I had a brother in the army as well and he suggested not to say anything to anybody of the killings I witnessed because he and my family would be in danger as well. Being homeless it also involves hunger and that could be a challenge, add the rain and the cold or the sunny CA heat.

While homeless I approached a couple of LAPD officers and asked them to deport me because I was so hungry, they were flabbergasted and laughed then one of them told me, he knew someone whom could help me, he introduce me to his mechanic whom allow me to stay at his place. That ended my homelessness days, from there I work hard, study hard and became the HR Manager at one the biggest corporations in Utah. Bought my own house, SUV, I had my own RV, the latest TV, etc. but those are things, material things, that we lost and we lost it all. The lesson I share with my son is:
If you base, the foundation of your life on a lie, you may as well be prepared to loose it all.

I was deported 5 years ago, it took me 5 years to be where I am now, business owner, university professor, consultant however I am still working toward being the Father, I need more to learn.

BTW: One day while looking for a job in Downtown LA, The man whom I helped, saw me walking by, he was working at a Taco place and he run out to talk with me, he cried and thank me because he knew what I done, he could not help me, he had no room for me, but he gave me food and 25 dollars that day.

One last thing: Long before I had the incident that took place for my dismissal from the armey, I met a lady from the US National Guard, whom was on a medical mission, we became good friends and in one of our conversations she mentioned that it will be nice to visit the US, and I reply that I have heard so many stories of people lining up for hours, overnight even, and being denied a visa, and I was not to go tru the same. She offered to help me, she asked me to give her my passport and she will help me with the visa. I never even made a 5 minutes line I went to the US embassy and from an special window they handed me my passport with a 10 years visa, I was never interviewed, I was never told of any specific requirements or obstacles, in other words I dod not even ask for one visa, they US Embassy here gave it to me thorugh someone I met.

If I had another choice to fly to another country I would prefer spain or europe I guess becuase I did not know better. (this happened 23 years ago)

So basically you're really chapped with the U.S. government for the services they give? Why take it out here? Why aren't you voicing this to the government? I've never once seen where you've acknowledged any contribution by our U.S. govenment regarding any of your redundant complaints. You just don't have it in you to admit. Don't cirvumvent the issues that blatantly stare you in the face. If any particular group receives services you don't approve of, you need to write your congressmans and representatives. I am a immigrant myself (although I come from Europe because of love and not as a refugee) and I don't believe that most of the Americans dislike immigrants. It is the same in Germany or the Netherlands, everyone is welcome if they obey the rules and laws. Nobody wants criminals in their home.
