A member of my church and activist community, Roxroy Salmon, will be speaking at an immigrants’ rights event in Union Square this Saturday at noon. Roxroy is a 32-year resident of Brooklyn who is facing deportation despite the fact that his wife, kids and granddaughter are all US citizens. He has a hearing on July 7, after which he could be unjustly and permanently exiled from his entire family and community. Roxroy will be sharing his story at the "Children's Vigil", a youth-led effort to raise awareness about the catastrophic effect US deportation policy has on families. I'm going to be there, along with some other members of the First Presbyterian Church of the City of New York. Below are more details -- please join me, the New Sanctuary Movement, and Families for Freedom at this great event and help spread the word!

PRESS ADVISORY: For Immediate Release
Contact: Manisha Vaze, 917-748-0938

Annual Children’s Vigil Celebrates NY’s Support of American Kids, Immigrant Families
Honor Father’s Day by Calling for Passage of the Child Citizen Protection Act (HR 182)

WHAT: On the eve of Father’s Day, Families for Freedom’s Youth Committee will be holding its annual Children’s Vigil to raise awareness about American kids whose families are ripped apart due to the federal government’s draconian deportation policies. The year’s Vigil will celebrate the overwhelming support New York has shown for this bill and pay special tribute to immigrant dads fighting to stay with their families. Youth will follow the Vigil by holding a street corner speak-out to educate the community about what they can do to help win passage of this legislation.
WHY: As President Obama sets his sights on immigration reform, American kids and their immigrant families want him to know that New Yorkers’ priority is to keep our families together. The Child Citizen Protection Act (HR 182) is the only bill currently in Congress that unties the hands of immigration judges to consider the best interests of U.S. citizen children during deportation proceedings. In the past fiscal year, nearly 350,000 people were deported leaving behind thousands of American kids who need their moms and dads. The Vigil will be a celebration of the hundreds of New Yorkers who have lobbied, called, written, and visited Congress to help get this legislation reintroduced and cosponsored in 2009!
WHEN: Saturday, June 20, 2009, 11am-1pm

WHERE: Union Square Park, South (E. 14th St, across from Whole Foods Market)
WHO: Youth Organizers from Families for Freedom
Immigrant Organizer and father, Roxroy Salmon and his children
Representatives from: Congressman Jose Serrano’s Office, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke’s Office, State Senator Jose Serrano’s Office, New York City Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito’s Office, and MORE!
Religious leaders and congregants from the NYC New Sanctuary Coalition

Community Organizations: the American Friends Service Committee, Children’s Defense Fund, Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights and many more organizations!

Hate to say it, but, the vast majority of the American people don’t really care about this kind of thing.

As far as the immigration side of the matter goes, he could only be deported for one of three reasons. 1. He failed to apply for late amnesty (still possible). 2. Has a criminal record. (if so should be deported) 3. Was sarcastic to an immigration officer (worst of all possible crimes deserves the death penalty).

Those Immigrants That Come To Live The American Dream Are More Than welcome!!!

Those That Come to Steal It Are Protected By Organizations And Ignorance Such As Above!!!

The Children In Many Of These Situations Were Planned As Tools And Weapons Against Deportation, In Addition To Providing Power by Manipulating USA Rules For Monetary Benefit!!!
In Many Cases These Poor innocent, Unfortunate children Were Used as TOOLS!!! Victims Are The children Of Immigration Related Charades!!!

Many Countrys Do Not value Children As Those Of USA!! Yet Their ability To manipulate and decieve Are Great!!!

Some are Organized Together As a Group Banded Together As Manipulators!, Some Come With Truth seeking An honest Life Here In USA! The Groups Of Good immigrants Should Ban Together To Prevent Those Of Fraud From Making The Ultimate Goal More Difficult!!!! Unfortunately Even Within The Groups Reside Those Of Fraud And Deciet, Manipulating Not Only Americans! But Their Own Culture and Race As Well!!!

I normally agree with your posts, Unique, but please don't put words in the mouths of most Americans. Most of us do not have any exception to immigrants and I believe we are still a welcoming nation. USCIS might be s.crewed up, but don't label all of us that way. We all came here from immigrants and most of us realize this. We are not hateful of immigrants at all. Our laws are messed up and need to be fixed. That is what has caused alot of animosity.

ProudUSC,

I didn’t say the majority was against immigrants. I said that the majority doesn’t care about these kinds of stories. Cancel all immigration for one year, see what happens. Cancel all football for one year, see what happens.

The TRUTH about this drug dealer who sells drugs to little children and now claims to be such a great father:

Deport this Drug Dealer !

"Salmon, 52, came to the U.S. undocumented in 1977, at the age of 21, with the hope of receiving an education and starting a career.
But between that year and 1989, he was arrested on drug charges.
After his run-ins with the law, Salmon started fresh and took a job as a lead remover. He began a family.
He recently went to U.S. immigration officials to apply for citizenship, but was told he faced possible deportation because of the drug charges and his illegal status.
The Salmon family faces its unhappy situation because of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. The law allows people to be deported for crimes committed in the past, regardless of how long in the past."

"We do understand that the arrest of violators may have a negative impact on the violators' families. However, parenthood does not make a person immune from having to comply with a nation's laws," U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Public Affairs Officer Harold Ort said.

Can you imagine living near this piece of s c u m? Deport this drug dealer !!!Protect our children !!!

This one comes across different don't you think?

Who is Roxroy Salmon?

Roxroy Salmon is a national of Jamaica who has lived in the United States for the past thirty years. He came to the U.S. with his father when he was a young man to seek a good education and to accomplish his goals. He has four beautiful children that were born in the U.S. He also has a daughter who was born in Jamaica. He adores all of his children. He lives with three of his children: Natasha, an 18 year old who attends Long Island University for legal studies, Nyasia, a 15 year old studying design at her high school and Elijah, a 12 year old in middle school. Roxroy is an organizer at Families for Freedom and a member of the New Sanctuary Coalition. Because of minor drug convictions from over 20 years ago, he is facing removal proceedings. He believes that everyone deserves their human right to stay with their families. He is working hard to pass legislation that would keep his family together: HR 182, the Child Citizen Protection Act (CCPA). This bill, if passed, would allow immigration judges the power to use their discretion in Roxroy’s case, allowing them to stop his deportation. In Roxroy's own words: "I live and breathe for my children. It is my greatest honor. I teach my children decency and moral values because I was brought up that way. I teach them to be good human beings: to love God, themselves and their neighbors. I just can’t bear the thought of being away from my family - most of all my children and grandchildren, my brothers and sisters and my mother.”Fast to Stop Deportation!

ROFL and he applied for citizenship. Greed is one of the 7 deadly sins. Can you say moronic?

But wait...... now it actually may be possible... Our fearless leader has spoken finally on immigration and on fatherhood Roll Eyes

Obama says immigration overhaul is essential

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says he is committed to a comprehensive immigration overhaul that includes a way that illegal immigrants can become U.S. citizens.

Obama told a gathering of Hispanics on Friday that U.S. borders must be strengthened to thwart illegal immigration.

He said the millions of people who are now in the U.S. illegally should have the chance to become citizens. He said they must pay a fine and taxes, learn English and "go to the back of the line" of people trying to enter the United States from their home country.

He said employers should not be allowed to exploit illegal immigrants to drive down wages.

Obama made his remarks at the Esperanza National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast and Conference.

This is a case where the more pro-pieces published the worse the picture. A matter of each leaving out different details but between them the story becomes clearer.

The one mentioned a grand daughter. His oldest daughter is 18. Illegitimacy and possible statutory rape?

The other says he lives with 3 of the children. Where is the mother?

The one says he is an organizer at some outreach. More than likely in a volunteer capacity since it failed to mention a positive attribute, being actually employed. Ok, how is he paying his bills and supporting his 3 kids? Welfare?

Both said it was a minor drug conviction. The other said 'run ins' with the law. More than one? We know in order for a drug offense to count against an immigrant it must be something other than pot and be more than 30 grams. Intent to distribute? Normally the details would be revealed in a report if it supported the claim given of 'minor'. Being they are absent, the innuendo of being minor is subject to the whims of the reporter and their spin.

There is mention of a forth daughter in Jamaica. Well, it seems to me he has family there. One that he apparently abandoned to come here. One that he hasn't seen in a while. Maybe they are overdue for a bit of father in their life.

Apparently, as a kid when he first got here, within the first 2 yrs, he had minor drug offence and was given a conditional discharge and charged with disorderly conduct

In 1989 he pleaded guilty for drug possession and selling narcotics. He claims he was set up by cops, but pleaded guilty all the same as it was his word against the cops.

In 2001 his USC mother petitioned him. 2007 he was asked to appear in immigration court due to his past convictions.
Immigration laws changed in 1996, which would make his past convictions deportable..and so on. Kind of complicated but yeah, we do not know the full story and details.

However there was a documentary back in May about him and his case.

He lives with his kids and common law wife.
He has 4 children all of which are USC's, born here.
He lives with 3 of his kids.
A 5h (daughter was born in Jamaica)Not sure if there or here.

If the pro-amnesty crowd wants to further their cause, they need a better poster boy than this character.

Find someone with a job. Someone who is responsible for his kids. And who's kids aren't producing more illegitimate kids. Doesn't have multiple drug convictions and other assorted mishaps with police. How difficult can it be? Surely there must be one out there who fits the description. At least get someone who doesn't look like a drug pusher, jeeze.

BTW, New York doesn't recognize a common law wife.

Don't forget it's not just illegals being deported but legal ones too, often for minor offenses. Maybe cocaine possession isn't minor but still the same, if they were a USC it would be a misdemeanor, maybe a fine or some jail time. Since 1996 more non-violent offenses have resulted in removal:

Forced Apart (By the Numbers) Non-Citizens Deported Mostly for Nonviolent Offenses

The 64-page report uses data from 1997 to 2007 from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to evaluate the effects of sweeping deportation laws passed in 1996. It shows that some of the most common crimes for which people were deported were relatively minor offenses, such as marijuana and cocaine possession or traffic offenses. Among legal immigrants who were deported, 77 percent had been convicted for such nonviolent crimes. Many had lived in the country for years and were forced apart from close family members.

OK here is the PROOF ! You are accusing ME of helping my girls commit scams !!! ALL of the women on my site are sincere and genuine and NONE of them have ever pulled a scam. NOT ONE POST ON ILW complaining about fraud has been a result of ANY "mail order bride" dating agency - AGAIN NOT A SINGLE ONE and certainly not from mine. They all involve people met in OTHER ways. My agency has been in existance since 2001 and thousands of sincere marriages and hundreds of littlr babies have been born as a result with 0% divorce rate, 0 % abortion rate, 0% fraud. Tell me ANY other dating service that has a record like that ! So you are VICIOUSLY and MALICIOUSLY lying about me and my clients by stating that I am helping people commit scams. That is a scam you are doing to me ! I would never do that and I do not do that. You don't even know these women and you accuse them of being scammers with NO FACTS !!!! And you accuse me, the most honest person in the world, of helping scammers. This is an outrage and a despicable lie !!!!
