There is no one thoroughly despicable. We cannot descend much lower than an idiot; and an idiot has some advantages over a wise man.

It is so pleasant to come across people more stupid than ourselves. We love them at once for being so.

Against stupidity; God Himself is helpless.

To William: I don't understand what you're getting at. You seem to be talking in riddles. What are you trying to say?

TORMENT

The sky is robed in gray and blue

Her brow creased with lines of worry

With tremulous lips she is poised on the brink

Caught betwixt two showers

The grasses dance to music

Their steps dictated by the airy piper

Faces are cast in supplication

Yet feet tread beaten paths

A swarm of bees

Swoop down for the nectar of Hibiscus

In defiance of Poseidon

They gather for the feast

Aqua's demesne is stirred to battle

Poseidon roars in fury

Borne on the wings of the wind

He holds counsel with his sister the sky

Tremulous lips now snarl in fury

Shifting clouds break into a run at her beckoning

She lets down the drawbridge of the flood

Pounding the earth with her fury

Offending swarm, obstinate feet

They now cower in the shadows

They are enwombed in the earth

But Selah O wretched traveler

One in search of Delphos

He is caught in the torrent

His bowed head reels to the blows of a hundred hammers

He is teased by a mischievous sprite

Ariel stings his face with wasps

With a windy whip

He lashes his eyes with biting spray

His soul cries out in his torment

Like a drooping petal in the sun's fury

He withers into himself

He is crushed in the embrace of the iron maiden

She forces her unrequited love on him

Raking his lips with her poisoned kisses

At last he concedes the race to shadows

Sinking into the chasm of night

Her cup of bile is now spent

Its last bitter dregs drained by unwilling lips

The water people cease their tossing and heaving

Freed from the bonds of their troubled sleep

They awaken with a an ebbing sigh

To showers of warmth and light

Laughter rumbles in the hills

The meadows are wreathed in smiles

Earth is thrilled by the caress of her golden lord

Her lips curving in a bow of welcome

Her rival the sky rest, her fury sated

While Poseidon sinks into the turquoise depths

Taking with him his fiery tidings

Deep, deep, into the green world

A traveler's yoke is lightened

Selah wakes to the songs of a Nightingale

Though stabs of agony remind him of worship

His spirit is reassured by a vision

For over the place where two rivals meet

He beholds the grooves of Delphi.

LOOKING IN THE MIRROR

Looking in the mirror

I see myself

I see the outward manifestation of my inward self

I use it as a yardstick

To measure the rights and wrongs of my earthly mien

Sometimes it seems to me

that my mirror has a life of its own

Taking on personality

As it reflects the truth about my physical appearance

I think

That like men throughout the ages

I will journey through life

Looking in the mirror my companion

To know the truth about my appearance.
