Last time I checked, not working wasn't a crime. Failure to file income tax is a crime, but only if you were required to file. If you had no personal income, you probably weren't required to file.

Assuming, of course, your GC wasn't employment-based. If it was, you'll need to have a good reason why you never worked for the sponsoring employer.
