i've heard that since sept 11th m the INS will create warrant for illegal immigrant or people who over stay there visa (exchange student , etc.) wich mean thatt if you get pulled over for a routine traffic stop or other minor stop the cops will run the driver license againt the NCIC system since they all have laptops in there squad car and if the name show up with a warant issued by the INS , the cops will detain you and turning you over the INS so bottom line if you dont have to use a car and are in a illegal status dont drive and risk getting busted and deported because a routine traffic stop

They've been doing that a long time before sept 11.
Police officers always run your licence through NCIC and if the INS has a warrant out for your arrest, the police will ask INS if they want to extradite you.
It's nothing new.

It is even worse than that... Technically you must carry proof of status at all times and failure to produce such documentation is reason for detention. Just ask the folks on the west coast; they are subject to this type of procedure very often. The law enforcement agencies around the rest of the country are currently being instructed to do the same. So your name will not have to even be on a computer system somewhere; all that has to happen is your inabilty to prove status upon request... This country does not have much sympathy will illegal aliens and it is getting even less tolerant...

Yep. I commute between New Mexico and Arizona regularly and sometimes the questioning I am subjected to at the INS check points can be very . . . even though I am a permanent resident.
