I just received notice for N400 interview, which is about 5 months since I filed.

Question:

After the interview, would the INS officer give you an answer on the spot? How long does it take for the final step, the Ceremony? I heard anything from right away to 4 months..

I have an employee of mine that received his citizenship the same day, and I also know someone that had to wait quite a while (I am not sure if it was weeks or months). I also have no idea if this is a regional thing, a case by case thing, or simply a timing thing.

So how is that for a non-answer... (BTW: My employee was dealing with Newark, NJ - the other person was dealing with a different center).

With my interview scheduled, I went to INS site to check the status of my case..

It showed me the case status unavailable. Any idea why is that?
