Why God Created Lawyers
Satan was complaining bitterly to God, "You made the world so that it was not fair, and you made it so that most people would have to struggle every day, fight against their innate wishes and desires, and deal with all sorts of losses, grief, disasters, and catastrophes. Yet people worship and adore you. People fight, get arrested, and cheat each other, and I get blamed, even when it is not my fault. Sure, I'm evil, but give me a break. Can't you do something to make them stop blaming me?"
And so God created lawyers.

Definitely. Here in Wisconsin we have heard many stories of lawyers abusing alcohol and drugs. Here it is a report of the Wisconson State Bar on the issue:

Substance abuse among lawyers is a terrible problem. Studies indicate that the alcoholism rate among lawyers may be twice that of the general population "” perhaps 20% of the total number of lawyers. It is unknown whether this high incidence rate results from the extreme stress of practicing law, or because the same personality traits predispose one to law practice and substance abuse. Nobody knows the extent of cocaine abuse among lawyers, but it too is undoubtedly substantial and devastating.
Substance abuse inevitably results in impaired performance"”at least poor judgment, incompetence and neglect of client affairs, sometimes fraud and theft from clients. Fifty to seventy percent of the disciplinary cases brought before state bar ethics panels result at least in part from alcohol or drug abuse. A great many malpractice cases also have their roots in substance abuse. There are now substantial resources available to help lawyers in trouble with substance abuse, such as The Other Bar, a Twelve Step program intended for lawyers, and state bar diversion programs. Nevertheless, the problem is very serious and appears to be getting worse.

The difference is that with your attitude, a lawyer like me will not give you any free advice on this website, because why should I help idiots like you who won't appreciate it. That leaves you the liars. Good luck.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) announced a new standard for medical testing. Testing on rats will be terminated, and in the future live animal testing will be performed using lawyers. The NIH presented the following explanation for its decision:
Some lab assistants were becoming quite attached to their rats, and it was important to find an alternative which would not inspire emotional involvment. The population of attorneys grows at a faster rate than the population of rats. Lawyers contribute less to society, and thus are more expendable than rats. Animal rights societies do not oppose experimentation on lawyers. There are some things even a rat won't do.
The NIH is trying to resolve concerns raised by this change, that using lawyers for testing may render it more difficult to extrapolate test results to human beings.

To Lawyer's Victim: You are asking a ridiculous question. The "difference" between a lawyer and a liar is the same as the difference between anyone else and a liar. Some lawyers ARE liars; just as some PEOPLE are liars. But you are an idiot if you actually believe that ALL lawyers are liars, just like you would be an idiot if you believe that all PEOPLE are liars.
If you are such a poor judge of people that you cannot tell the difference between a liar and a non-liar, then I am afraid I can't help you. I also can't help you if you are dumb enough to actually believe that everyone is a liar (or even just all members of a particular profession, like lawyers).
My point is that I was under the impression a lot of people who come to this site are tired of the kind of stereotypes and hatred that immigrants have to put up with from some people. I would have thought that those people would know better than to subscibe to similar stereotypes and hatred towards all members of a particular profession.
Even if you yourself had a bad experience with a lawyer, why in the world would that mean that ALL lawyers are bad? If I have a bad experience with a particular member of a racial or ethnic group, would I be justified in going around and saying that ALL members of that group were bad?
If you have a problem with a particular lawyer, ok, feel free to say so and call that lawyer out on it. But don't go around saying all lawyers are liars based on your personal experience with just one of them.
