I am about to enter a discussion with my employer about sponsering me and my family for my Green Card. (I am currently on a H1). The more information I have, the better positioned I am for the negotiations :) Could someone enlighten me to the approximate costs and time involved to switch me from a H1 to Green Card...Yes, I know it can have alot of factors, but even a rough guess would be of aid right now...

Thanks!
Greg

Well, my process started 2 years ago, and I am still on step one (DOL).

It costs at least a couple of thousand of dollars; my employeer is paying for all legal expences, so I am very blessed in that sense.

The issue is the timing: the DOL and INS are taking their sweet time, and you have to be not only patient but careful with your time planning. Remember, you have 3 + 3 years on H1-B, so you want to make sure you are calculating your processing time accordinaly.

1st, is the recrutement effort (trying to find somone who can replace you)
2nd, DOL (they take years to review your case)
3rd, INS (they also take a long time). The process is pretty straight forward, you just have to make sure you have plenty of time to work with.

Good luck to you.
