plead gulity to grand theft misd. in 1988 less than five years after coming to us. In 1996 became a resident. I am married to a us citizen. my reading of 237 makes me deportable even though i quailify under 212 for exception. Should i apply for citizenship?

1 year was max, it was in 1988 and yes it was disclosed on my residency application. ihave expunged but been told that does not help with immig.

one misd will not be a problem , but two or more will start even deportation against you.. one year max sentences is critical in your case.
expunged records does not help you. you have to wait 7 years atleast to apply for CITIzinship and stay clear. fo another misdeamenor.if you committed in 88 you are eligible to get naturalization..
