Hey Mike hope you managed to get some answers yesterday and feel better today. A question for everybody, today is leap day I think it is called, as the 29th only comes around every 4 years. In UK we have a tradition on this day, and that is it is the only day (not mandatory of course lol).. that a woman can propose to a man. Does it exist here in the US or in any of your native countries? Kind of silly I know but hey any excuse I guess to have a day for women -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God Bless America - God Bless Immigrants - God Bless Poor Misguided Souls Too Mr S.U.

That's interesting, Sprint. I'm not sure if it's a tradition here in the US, but I know for a fact that it's NOT the only day women propose to men in this country - lol!!!! I think that's an everyday occurrence here.
God Bless America and everyone else!

LOL Proud! Yeah I am sure in UK too, but women take advantage of this day and less embarrassed if they are the ones to ask the man I guess. lol -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God Bless America - God Bless Immigrants - God Bless Poor Misguided Souls Too Mr S.U.

Here is some history regarding the tradition (wikipedia) lol Folk traditions In the English speaking world, it is a tradition that women may propose marriage only on leap years. While it has been argued that the tradition was initiated by Saint Patrick or Brigid of Kildare in 5th century Ireland, it is dubious as the tradition has not been attested before the 19th century.[7] Supposedly, a 1288 law by Queen Margaret of Scotland (then age five and living in Norway), required that fines be levied if a marriage proposal was refused by the man; compensation ranged from a kiss to £1 to a silk gown, in order to soften the blow.[8] Because men felt that put them at too great a risk, the tradition was in some places tightened to restricting female proposals to the modern leap day, 29 February, or to the medieval leap day, 24 February. According to Felten: "A play from the turn of the 17th century, 'The Maydes Metamorphosis,' has it that 'this is leape year/women wear breeches.' A few hundred years later, breeches wouldn't do at all: Women looking to take advantage of their opportunity to pitch woo were expected to wear a scarlet petticoat -- fair warning, if you will."[9] In Denmark, the tradition is that women may propose on leap day 24 February and that refusal must be compensated with 12 pairs of gloves. In Greece, it is believed that getting married in a leap year is bad luck for the couple[citation needed]. Thus, mainly in the middle of the past century, couples avoided setting a marriage date in a leap year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God Bless America - God Bless Immigrants - God Bless Poor Misguided Souls Too Mr S.U.

Hey Sprint, Here's the tradition for US Leap Year: Sadie Hawkins Day In the United States, some people have referred to this date as Sadie Hawkins Day with women being given the right to run after unmarried men to propose. Sadie Hawkins was a female character in the Al Capp cartoon strip Li'l Abner. Many communities prefer to celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day in November which is when Al Capp first mentioned Sadie Hawkins Day. In high school, we used to have Sadie Hawkins dances where the girls invited the guys - so I guess we do have similar traditions as other countries (after all, we did evolve from many countries - lol).
God Bless America and everyone else!
