How does battery operated items in my house go off by themselves when I have a severe thunderstorm with lightening strikes?

No..not those type of battery operated things..dirty minds lol

I have 2 teddy bears that sing songs when you press the hand or heart ok...a R2D2 robot thing, and a strange toy that laughs.

They keep going off when lightening strikes around my house.

It is kind of freaky..when you suddenly hear 'Jingle Bells' playing out of no where, and R2D2 making his sounds, and that freaky laughter..when no one is near them and you have to press buttons for them to work.

This morning same thing happened..got struck nearby..a tree from what we can see...and R2D2 and a teddy went off talking/singing to themselves. It ain't funny..it's kind freaky..and no we are not haunted.

So is it some electrical static or something that is causing this?? Not heard of anything like this before. Anyone know?

Maybe I should call Mythbusters or something? lol

NO I swear!! He has been asleep during most of the times it has happened, when it's during the night.

This morning he was downstairs with me, as he loves watching storms, and then suddenly..they went off after we saw the strike.

I'm not kidding..there has to be some scientific reason for it.

No house is only 10 yrs old, and not an Indian sacred part of land as far as I know.

Yeah I should do shouldn't I. I have to find a sc-rewdriver or something first for some of them, to get batteries out.

I can understand maybe loud thunder that causes house to rattle, may move some battery operated items that could cause them to go off..but not lightening strikes.

It's a mystery..need to look into static..only answer I can think of.

Its not the batteries. Its a bi-product of a thunder storm. It may affect things that are not electrically shielded like your toys. When the charge for lighting is forming it isn't just coming down its also going up from the ground. You don't see it until its too late. Many times negative electrical surges coming up from the ground towards the sky will occur but not enough to create a lighting flash. These will pass through what ever is in its path.

So what you are saying is that if I take the batteries out, the things will still go off?? OMG..I have a storm coming again shortly..I want them to stop lol
