Good day, everyone! No need to mention each one by name, lest I miss out someone. I mean all!
I mentioned yesterday that I would join the immigration rally in Los Angeles, so it's incumbent upon me to report back what happened.
I planned to do so last night but I was too exhausted and with legs so sore from long hours of standing and marching.
But the problem was that the event had been altogether very organized, calm, and orderly that nothing was there almost to talk about.
My group joined the MacArthur Park assembly point (among a number of others), the site of the violent melee of last year's rally between the demonstrators, instigated by infiltrators actually, and the L.A. Police that until now aside from the reported sacking of the commander, no redress yet is there for the aggrieved parties - women, children, unarmed rallyists, and members of the media.
But anyway, the organizers perfectly ensured this time that cordoning off of misfits was the main feature of yesterday's demonstrations. And they succeeded. Everything commenced and culminated absent any 'untoward' incidents. Just five unrelated arrests, I heard.
What marked the rally so far was the thinning of participants compared to previous years - rough estimates of just few thousands. They attribute this fact to the lack of incentive to join, or due to absence of a 'momentum' in Congress for any pending legislation geared towards legalization (exactly what the rally was about).
Yet so far, so good, the message has been conveyed hopefully. The rally climaxed in downtown Los Angeles with bigshot state legislators in attendance who talked about workers, businesses, families, human rights, economy and all that stuff.
My legs and hips are still sore!
