Have you ever flown? No human beaing can fly, whether ot not you have a green card.

About working, they should have given you a work permit already?

did you apply for an employment authorization? I-765 when you filed your other forms with the BCIS?
if not, do it now...
And if so, request your employment authorization card as soon as possible ?(usually they give it to you within 90 days from applying for employment authorization).
Once you have your greencard, you can fly yes, and leave the country if you'd like.
