I wanna talk to a lawyer, and have one in mind who offers Free consultation. Here is my question.
I have all my paper work, documents, cover letter, affadavits ready to file the I 751 waiver.
At the free consultation, can I present the lawyer what I have and what I prepared and everyhting to get his opinion. And ultimately,I would wanna hire him, just to be on safe side,so I have or had an attorney when filing my paper work and what not. An attorney is also a legal witness right, that the application was sent with all the documents and everyhting right?
Unfortunately, nothing is free these days especially to lawyers. They may give you the chance for a brief initial interview; but would later charge you for the time spent.
First of all if you want to get a good legal advice you have to check your 'lawyer'. Get references from his previous clients, your friends etc.
If you are planning to hire a 'lawyer' it will not do any good for you. In this case you have to look for IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY AT LAW.
The diference between a lawyer and attorney is that a lawyer is somebody who can give legal advice and has been trained in the law. An attorney is somebody legally empowered to represent another person, or act on their behalf.
Make sure that he specializes in your field though, don't be satisfied with just immigration attorney, he has to practice in your particular field.
Many immigration lawyers are members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you send an application get a confirmation reciept by using sertified mail.
I think in some states there is not such thing as an "immigration attorney". Rather you will find attorneys trained in other disciplines who are now engaged in immigration law. Immigration certification has not evolved everywhere to the level of say bankruptcy specialization.
My advice is to prepare some questions to ask the attorney at the interview. MAKE CERTAIN YOU KNOW THE ANSEWERS THOUGH. One question should be basic and two advanced. Judge for yourself how comfortable they are answering the questions. Remember you don't want to retain a lawyer just because they seem "like a nice person". You want a lawyer because they seem competent and knowledgable.
Also, why do you think you need a material witness at the time of filing? Thats what the post office reciept is for.

You are right. I live in one of those states. But I think it's worth travelling out of state in order to get a good professional service.
I read in some official immigration books, that places like (AILA) has Lawyers on their list as memebers, but, they also say that AILA does not check nor know their quality or knowledge...
This is what I did,in the state, sity I am living in I called a place which was listed as immigration attorney's.I called them and told them what I need. And they honestly told me this, which I liked very much. "We are focus with immigration for companies hiring them etc etc,but as far as I know, there is no real immigration attorney here in this city or area.I would advice to find someone in Michigan, Detroit area...they are the best. But I am not allowed to give you any names and referals.
Anyway...so I found one Online, who is being advertiest alot.I e mail him and tolf him my situation, with the I751 waiver and all, and told that I have all my stuff ready and what not and how much he would cost and everyhting...here is what he said to me.
Dear Sir: I am an expert in this area of law. I have handled hundreds of these type of cases and am very knowledgeable about all aspects of it.
You can call and make an appointment and bring in all of your documentation. An initial consultation costs $150 for an half hour and $250.00 for an hour. If you retain me to do the whole case then the consultation fee is waived. Hope to hear from you . Call ********* to make an appointment.
