I am a canadian citizen working on TN visa in california, my company got my TN visa renewed by applying I-129 so i am good for another year, but not for my family, now i have two options either i drive from california to vancouver and re-enter USA and get TD (I-94) stamped upon entry or i go through the immigration lawyer and apply for I-539 (extension of stay) which is costing me USD 1100. Any comments which one would be better, I know driving is going to cost me less.

My understanding is that TN is not a visa but a status.
But that's mere technicality.

Why would you want to go to Vancouver and re-enter US to get "TD(I-94)" stamped on your passport?
TD is not for TN worker, but for the family of the latter.
Isn't it your spouse who supposed to apply for TD at the border?
And isn't I-539 what one would need to file to extend TD status (as opposed to I-129TN for TN status extension)?

Please clarify so those familiar with the process may help you ( FYI, I am not familiar with laws governing TN/TD issuance , am not Canadian nor am I an immigration attorney).

You're familiar with your available options. Let me just polish up a little bit your "border re-entry option." If you're in California, you can carry out your thing (yours and your dependents') at the US-Mexican border. A lot of TN visa holders like you do exactly the same thereat.
