So......I was married in Kiev May 20
and now begins the saga beginning with documents. Anybody here married in Kiev???
I am looking to fully understand the documents required by USCIS and in particular the marriage certificate. Does it have to legalized in some way with an apostille in Ukraine?
Also I have some heavy questions in reference to documents for the child too. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all

I can't say I know anything about how Ukraine handles their marriage ceremonies, but do you have your marriage certificate or a copy thereof?

Usually the marriage certificate if in another language has to be translated to English and has to be notorized or have a certificate of translation attached. That is what I was told, but cannot be sure.

You can get information from the Ukrainan Embassy here in NY..they can help with information regarding these services whether here or in the Ukraine.

Here is a link to their Embassy, they may be able to help you get those legal documents here, if USCIS require them.

I married in England, so translation was not needed, but my marriage certificate was accepted by USCIS and I gave them nothing else, except a copy of my original marriage license for back up.

Regarding the child, as the same as the adult, you will need birth certificates. Again translation is needed.

If the child has a father and the father has rights, he may have to give permission for the child to leave the country, let alone move to the another country.
Best to sort that part out before applying, could delay things if not. Each country have their own laws regarding children and father's/custody rights.

Thanks Sprint
Did you do a k-3 as well? Were you required to get any documents to verify you were not wanted by the police or had no criminal record?
She is preparing to have a duplicate of the original authenticated and send it to me along with any other documents she needs to have for the application. I have an original translated and notorized but not authenticated with apostille

Yes I went K3/K4 route.

Yes I had to get a Police background check before interview at US Embassy. That is required. Check the forms..I think she needs to get it once she receives the receipt notice, or she will get a letter asking her to. Either way, she will know when to do it.

I would suggest to have all necessary legal documents that are required to be translated. I don't think the criminal background check needs to as that is dealt with at the Embassy there.

Have you looked online at the US Embassy over there? It should explain what documents are necessary to have translated for immigration purposes.

If she is go get duplicates for anything..have her get more than one, it is always best to have spare copy in case one goes missing or she needs it for the future. Once she is here, it is harder to obtain them again.

One other thing..medical. To speed up the process, have her and the child check the immunizations requirement list. They both have to be up to date, and the child will need extra vaccinations before entering the US.

Not only that, check your State requirements, as each State is different. Your step child (if school age) will not be able to go to school unless all the required State vaccinations are done.
My son had to have HEP1 and HEP2..and one of them requires the doses 3 times..with one month apart between each one, if I remember rightly. So time is of the essence.

What is a classed as a normal regular vaccine here, is not normal in most other countries, especially in Europe.

US Embassy Ukraine - K3/K4 info

During an interview each applicant is required to present the completed and signed form KEV-1 and the original documents together with their photocopies. We do not require the original financial support documents. Petitioners can fax or e-mail them to the beneficiaries. Any document in a foreign language should be accompanied by a notarized/certified English translation. After the interview all originals except the police certificates are returned to the applicant.

Honeystlyspkng..

Apparently in her Packet 3 that she will receive, in there will be a form OF-167. That is the information about obtaining a Police Certificate that she needs.
