Hello, I am a university-educated Canadian who is interested in working as a nanny for my 10 month old niece in Denver, Colorado. I have been in Denver for almost 6 months (as a visitor) but will be returning to Canada shortly. I am interested in returning to Denver to work as a nanny for my brother's family (most likely for a period of one year). I understand I need to acquire the J-1 visa. What would be the cheapest way of doing this?
Go to the Dept. of State Website - they have Visa info there. Your brother will have to apply for you. There is no cheap way - you have to pay the visa fees if you fit into the guidelines.
Yes, I have looked at that website. Thank you for your information. My question was actually not very clear as I was referring to the fees that a nanny agency charges to the employer (in this case, my brother). Most of these fees were in the $2000 to $3000 range. I understand that one has to get the 'nanny' J-1 visa throgh an agency. Unfortunately I have also discovered that I am over the maximum age limit of 26 years so I do not qualify.
