My residency card expires in October 2002. I am going to apply for naturalization in September. Do I need to renew it? How about my son, his card expires the same month and he will be 14 in December 2002.

It is safe to have your GC renewed and file for naturalization.Considering also the unusual situation with the INS and the delay of processing, doing renewal of GC is the best option or you might experience problems or difficulties like you might have emergencies.INS is unpredictable, it is better play on the safe side. Once you are naturalized, your kids follow with slight addition on having his/her doing fingerprint since s/he reached the age of 14.
