Hi Chilana,

Welcome to the forum. Give it a few weeks. Not all cases are handled the same way. Hopefully, they will send the letter with the date of your oath ceremony soon!!! Good luck! Smile

Just wondering what made you to think you could be able to become a US citizen on the same day of your interview in NY distict office? NY district office NEVER have same day oath unlike other district offices across the country like in NJ, Seattle and other places. All you can get is oath letter on the same day of interview in NY DO which will tell you when and where you will be taking Oath. Without taking Oath, noone can be considered a US citizen regardless of application approved or not.

NYC distict office has two sub-offices for citizenship interview. One in Garden City in Long Island and other one is Federal Plaza in the city. Garden City office doesn't give Oath letter to applicants on the same day for the last 2 years while they mail it. As for Federal Plaza office, then most of the time applicants do get oath letter once they are done with their interview if everything goes well, but it doesn't happen all the time.

That being said, just wait for the Oath notice/letter. Your oath might be 2-4 weeks from now.

Good luck...

The same thing happened to me at the interview and I got the letter a week later. My oath date was 3 weeks after the interview.

So, you have nothing to worry about. You just have to wait.

This is all dirty tricks of Democrats. Please make sure you pass the word within your family who is eligible to vote that Republicans are the best, they work hard and get things done as opposed to lazy Democrats. Have them vote for McCain for expedited results. Care for your new country, care for your family. Vote McCain.

Yes they say that on all petitions no mater how well you did They wont just say hey your oath papers etc are in the mail and you did great it they issued you a receipts number usually starts with msc you can track the status/progress of your case if your background is clear and she said you passed the test you just have to wait a few weeks,,, see if they issued you a receipt number if not sure call immigration on the 1-800 no and give them the details that you have available and they can help you out :-) thye may say its pending if so that means they are just working on the paperwork as the process thousands of applications daily

I don't think you should have any tension just because you were not told you are approved after the interview. In NY district office, immigration officers normally don't tell the decision to the applicants right away; rather they send it thru mail which would be an oath letter unless they would demand some more evidences on something or deny the case. So, don't think anything negative as of now. It's more about finding the spot for you for the oath ceremoney than anything else because after conducting a favorable interview, interviewing officers send the file to a department that arranges oath for applicants so that applicants could get Oath. Just wait 2-4 weeks.

Good luck...

Hey Chilana - I'm in the exact same situation as you. My interview was on 10/23 and I'm still waiting for the oath letter. This wait and not knowing makes me crazy, so I totally sympathize.

Sammy, it seems that you know quite a bit about how the INS works. In my case, I had my interview on 10/23 and still hasn't received the oath letter. I'm starting to get worried and maybe a bit paranoid about what happens if my file was lost, there's a problem I don't know about, etc. Their automated system, same as their online case status, has not been updated since May 2008. Their automated system even states that their customer representatives don't have any additional information. What would be the best way to get a hold of someone that would have some helpful information?

Could be a long time for written decision, but in any event, even if she said you passed, you could not have traveled to India with a U.S. passport until you were sworn in, then applied for and received your passport. It seems you are too eager to leave. What is the issue? Is the U.S. passport just for convinience or are you truely a loyal American? Are you going to vote for the Obamessiah just because he pronounces Pakistan correctly? Note that he cannot pronouce France, Italy, or Germany (Deutschland) correctly, so don't fixate on that.

Hi Shimrit,
My boyfriend is in the same situation as you. He had his interview on the 23rd Oct 2008, and is still waiting for the oath letter. I was wondering if you received yours yet?
On the day he was told that their systems were down, otherwise he would have been given the date of his oath then and there.

Hi there,

Its nice to join this community, lots of information. Thank you all.

I had my interview on Nov 21, I passed everything. The I/O told me that I should receive a letter to take the oath or a letter asking for more documents? I/O told me that my case is quite unusual. I submitted N-400 in May back when I was living in Oregon and in July 2008 my husband received a research fellowship program at the University of British Columbia. We have no choice but to take it because my husband's work contract is ending and there was no job offer as yet, so we decided to move to Vancouver, BC. We often cross the border though because I have my own business which is still operating in the US. And I told this to the i/O who interviewed me and also told her that our intention is to move back into the US after the fellowship is over which is in Jan 2010.

My questions is, has anyone experience with the same situation as me? If so, did you get your citizenship or has been denied?

Thanking you all in advance for your time and reply.

Unfortunatelly I still did not receive the oath letter. Was his interview at NYC 26 Federal Plaza?
