Hey everyone,

Can anyone explain how things would work in the following situation:

My OPT expires in on July 10, 2008. I am getting married in April 2008, and applying for a green card and permission to work immediately after that. How does this transition work? Could I continue working on the valid OPT while I'm waiting for green card EAD? How long does it usually take for that to be approved?

I really would like to avoid having to interrupt or even lose my job because of this switching of work permits.

I will appreciate your advice, comments, suggestions, etc. regarding this matter.

Thanks greatly,
M.

(It's no good to start a new thread, no need to have us chase you up).

Your timeline is OK, I mean, your continuous work may not even be interrupted. You're gonna file your marriage-based I-765 while your OPT is still valid. If ever there's a resulting interregnum, it's gonna be very short - and it's procedurally forgiven. Other alien spouses like you DO NOT have work authorization at all before marriage, who are mostly working. An I-765 is normally approved within a month or two, but not more than 90 days, granting that everything's OK with your marriage-based filings.
