Son of a Beach is not foul language. Maybe we should google that?

ProudUSC - Two violations were reported for Michaelthegreat. One was Merry Flying Christmas which was (to my surprise) in general use, courtesy google. The other violation (Son of a Beach), was not in general use, and I used the reasonable person standard and found Michaelthegreat guilty as charged. Michaelthegreat's current violation meter is at two violations. If he incurs a third violation before the reset rule is adopted (or if we DONT adop the reset rule), then he will be out. As I said, I am being fair. - Sam.

Just because I find some of Michaelthegreat's posts funny(some, definitely not most), does not mean that I will enforce the rules any differently for him. My personal preference is not a factor in enforcing the rules in black and white cases. In the grey area, I use the reasonable person standard.

No you're not. This isn't about SOM (he should have been thrown off this forum a long time ago) - this is about allowing Beverly to use STFU and I can't say Son of a B!!!!! So, is STFU acceptable? It's no worse than what ProudUSC posted and ProudUSC only used one letter.

Rough Neighbor: You are correct that our Terms of Service state "Please use common courtesy, and refrain from using foul language." Michaelthegreat did not use common courtesy, but did refrain from using foul language. Remember, I said that developing rules would be a slow process? One way to go forward is to incorporate our Terms of Service into the board's rules posted at: http://discuss.ilw.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/902603441/m/78310062631 though they are already incorporated implicitly though not by reference. If we do so, that would make the rules in two different places, which is not a good idea. I will check with our tech guru and find a solution which results in all our rules in one place. Again, I am trying to find rules which are primarily meant to encourage compliance, and only secondarily punitive (not vice versa). Another problem is the one you point out - "To me, "courtesy" needs no written rules, regulations, or policies." I am trying to delineate the standards as clearly as possible, so that we have as little grey area as possible. Ambiguity in rules is what creates situations where fairness is questioned, enforcement is inefficient, etc, and ambiguity therefore is to be avoided wherever possible. - Sam.

It doesn't sound FAIR at all Sam. You are giving out warnings to one but not another.
Neither Bev or Proud spelled out a foul word, yet it is ok to punish one over the other?

You know Sam maybe you should look around at other sites, maybe you will see familiar names that are talked about from this site, and how they are giving this site such a bad name.
Do these same people actually give anyone advice or help? what are their motives to be here, apart from being nasty and rude or racist.

I also think that Michael's quote should be dealt with, this really isn't 'courteous' at all, and rather disturbing especially to anyone new coming to the forum.

Re Mike_2007's post of 02-14-2008 08:23 PM - I banned SonofMichael for one day. He later piled up two violations, one under SonofMichael and one under Michaelthegreat. I checked the registration info and found that it was one and the same person. So, I informed him that he had two violations, and that he was one violation away from a permanent ban (that's where he stands today under our current rules). He protested that accounts could not be clubbed together, but I said I would under the reasonable person standard. Using the same standard, I not only permanently banned the spammer who posted a hundred posts on this board about two weeks ago using three different accounts, but deleted all their posts.

Explora: STFU is acceptable because a polite form is in general use. ProudUSC's posting is not acceptable because I can see only one meaning for it and that meaning is "foul language" under our rules.

ProudUSC: I have explained what standard I am using and why. I have given links to the resources used to make the determination. All that said, I still agree that I can err. That's why I have proposed the reset rule to which I await comments from all interested members of this community.

I don't know what's going on with the two of them, but can something be done about this thread disruption? When I joined our forum last year, Explora and Beverly are fighting like crazy - your presence cooled down things and thanks for that. I just disregard Beverly's post since it's immaterial to the topic, but I'm figuring that the others may be sooo irritated. What can be done about this kind of situation? I am sorry for doubting you earlier, but it seems you are a very just and reasonable person.
If you want my opinion on resetting trespasses, I would oppose it. You are already giving a lot of chances to comply to your rules here on this forum. How many chances can you give? You can't let people walk over your head and not respect the rules on this forum.
